I posted this under "do it yourself", and not getting responses, so if you think you're seeing double, you are .
(It's not worded the same). I figured maybe I'd get more in the general population .
In 2015, I planted 10 pots with new soil (don't remember what kind), and had good luck with my plants. No yellow leaves, etc. Didn't plant in 2016, and in 2017, I used the same soil in the same pots. I used nutrients as I thought they should be used, trying not to overdo, but the leaves were yellowing and dropping off, making me think they were Nitrogen deficient. So, I Over fertilized and got more yellow leaves. I've since learned how to fertilize. In 2018, I put new soil in all the pots (15-20 gal), and had pretty good luck with the leaves *didn't get as much product as when the leaves all turned yellow....go figure*, but didn't have a floor full of leaves, either.
oh, the 'new' soil last year was described by some on the forum as too "hot", even though we tried to get some without a lot of nutrients in it (my husband bought it, and I just couldn't make him take it back 40 miles to the next town)..
So, is the problem 'new' vs 'old' soil? Do I need to get new soil each year?
OH, I plant outdoors.
thanks in advance for any advice
