Is my CFL setup sufficient for my plants?

Hi everyone,

Got two plants going on at the moment: Auto Critical Jack from Dinafem and Auto Somango. Started both of these of in my closet using 125W Dual spectrum CFL, and a 60W Blue CFL 6400K. From what I've read, this total wattage seems okay since I'm not expecting too much. Unfortunately, I cannot hang my dual spectrum 125W (it has a reflector attached too) from the roof to be right above the plants right now hence why you'll see on the pictures that it's on the side.

I'm growing without things like ventilation etc, although I do open the doors sometimes and open the window to fully circulate new air. I'm growing in standard soil, with some nutrients in it. Both of my plants are coming out of the soil.

My main advice and reassurance I'd like is whether my set up is okay. Are my lights close enough? Why is one of my seedlings thin and quite tall without much leaf and with slow growth? Its been roughly a week and a bit and why is there only the first two leaves?

Any input would be brilliant, thanks in advance.

I would put the lights above the plant and get or make a reflector to point the light right where you want it

That growth seems normal for a week and a bit under some CFLs.

As longer as it does not burn your hands it should be fine for the seedling.

If lights are too far, they will get long stretchy stems.

As long as you are not over or under watering or feeding, then your plant should be fine. Maybe it's just working on some roots, then it will develop more leaf structure.

But according to my pictures, do the lights seem too far, you see I cannot put the big 125W any closer. and the one above them is in the middle to get to both of them? Is it just fine and I need to wait.

It should suffice. just spin the pots once in a while so they don't bend towards to light and grow sideways.

You can put CFL's literally inches away from your plants. Just do a test with your hand to be sure. If you put the back of your hand where the plant is and it feels fine, then it's O.K. for the plant. If it's a little warm on your hand then you will want to back them off a few inches. If you want to check out what others are doing with CFL's check out the dedicated section for them.
