Cannabutter disappointment

Hello, every one!

So, I just made a batch of cannabutter and was disappointed. I used 25g of popcorn buds and 500g of butter. I put butter in a jar, and jar — in to boiling water. When butter had melted I added buds and cooked the mix for around 6 hours steering it eventually.

When all was done and butter cooled down, I decided to test it and ate 1 tea spoon of butter with cookie and had no effect at all! Next day I tried a table spoon already, with the same results.

What had I done wrong (if anything)? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks!

I suggest decarbing the popcorn buds in an oven in the future (Grind the buds then place in oven), this should improve the strength to a noticeable degree.I would also use a crock pot, setting it on a low or medium temperature (Depends on the brand.) .Leave the ground decarbed cannabis in the crock pot for 3-4 hours.I do not think you did anything terribly wrong and you should have gotten some effect. This leads me to believe it could be possible that the material you used was of poor quality or you have a high tolerance.
Hope this helps.

Happy Toking :bigjoint:

I make my butter strong and cook it real slow in a crock for 24 hours.
I bring the 1 lb of butter and water to a boil.
I add my bud which is 1/4 lb. I use a magic bullet machine to grind up my bud so its really fine.
I wait for the mixture to boil again then turn the crock down to low for a cook time of 24 hours. I stir it when im awake every hour or so.
Strain it...cool it..put in a container in my fridge and use at will

Some may say to much weed for the butter but that's how I like it and everyone is different on how they make stuff..

Done that as well, thanks.

When I tried to smoke those buds, I had a noticeable effect.

Too much butter to weed ratio.
I will increase dosage and try my butter again this weekend. Next time will definitely make butter stronger. Thanks.

So, does it make sense to coock this butter one more time with more buds? Or is it better to make another butch of cannabutter but stronger and use this one for coockies/brownies?

Totally your call.

You may want to grab a candy thermometer. 250F is the ideal temperature for decarboxylation of THCA into THC. There are plenty of articles on here that discuss temperature, time and various methods.

I don't really do Fahrenheit.
You don't want to exceed 105C in the actual sample being decarbed.
I've posted the video before, not sure of the title right now, but it had this woman break down the results of testing decarbing for the production of edibles and such.

Sounds like they may not have decarbed, you could always decarb the buds in an oven or device such as the Ardent Nova Lift

New cannabis technology is always exciting in my opinion. You could do things the old fashioned way, new tech just makes things easier and more precise
You say new cannabis technology, I think you mean profit. Shilling your own products on here is never gonna come off as anything such. Nobody had mentioned any sort of gadgets until you did, who also happens to be a paid advertiser. What a coincidence...

I decarb, use 1 1/2 zips per stick. I clarify my butter (called ghee) first, so when clarifying you lose all the milk fat and the "ghee" will lose weight in this process, so I start with 4 sticks of butter then process butter and make sure I measure the ghee to bud ratio so I know there is 1.5 oz to one stick. I prefer caramels, and make up 160 or so, 7/ 8 gram pieces.per stick., I eat one caramel, 40 mins. later I'm where I want to be. Long story short, Its a little more involved than mixing bud into butter. Original poster didn't mention straining mixture b4 sampling but u definately need to strain, so u lose a certain amt. in that process as well.

Dude back off. He hardly made mention of the product and only after mentioning the traditional oven method. Also as an advertiser, I'd say he absolutely has the right to politely plug a product if it's applicable. It's not like he came into a grow light thread and started randomly plugging a concentrate making product.

I don't even know if it's a good product, and it doesn't matter. If it's good then, that's awesome because new tech is exciting. If it's a bad product then it will get laughed at and won't be a success.

To the OP, like others have said I think your ratios were off. I don't ever decarb before I cook the butter. I use a crockpot, and simmer the butter and bud mixture for 6-8 hours which decarbs it well.

I stopped making regular cannabutter this way a few years ago though. Now I make qwiso and I dissolve that directly into the butter or coconut oil and let it simmer for a while. This eliminates all the cannabis flavor from cooking down the actual weed. I find it much more enjoyable, and you can use a precise amount of concentrate and really know the exact dosage of your edibles.

That was a sum of causes: hi tolerance and low weed to butter ratio.

Lol you're a clown. you use QWISO and you think you can accurately judge whats in your product? You made no mention of using a T check, which is funny since you posted to defend a "tech product" advertisement. So how do you know how good your homemade bullshit is? No, you have no clue other than a general guess. Use a lab grade distillate if you actually want to do accurate dosing. You're just shooting in the dark. I know for a fact that my concentrate is between 930-940mgs of THC per 1000ml of distillate.

Well, you are a rude one I see, not very impressive for a "jesusfreak". I did not state that I know exactly what doses I get, I stated that "you can use a precise amount of concentrate and really know the exact dosage of your edibles." If you have your concentrates tested or purchase tested concentrates then you can know a pretty exact potancy, at which point you can easily dose them based on quantity put into the edibles and how many servings you make.

Obviously using lab grade distillate would be ideal, but hard for many. I may not know exactly what % my qwiso tests at, and your right, I just guestimate the dosages. However since its just me, my wife and a few friends that ever eat them, I'm accurate enough ;). I'm glad you know exactly what potancy you have, lots of people do so I don't understand your anger other than being mad I told you off once already. Even without precise numbers I still feel its much more doseable when using concentrate to make edibles. If I use 1 gram of good concentrate into X amount of edibles I know it will be dosed well enough to be effective each time, without accidentally overdoing it. By this summer I will have test results for my qwiso at which point I can get real exact.

Thanks for not really adding anything to the thread again! Maybe you should take some of your distillate and chill. Sorry you didn't really prove anything other than that you have a bad attitude.
