Overcrowded scrog 3 weeks into flower.

He is pretty deep into flower, even "if it were to do that" it would hardly be enough time for it to develop into an issue before harvesting.
Thats not whats the issue. The issue is if it were to hermy the plant would use all its resources/nutrients into producing the sacks so its resulting pollen pollinates itself or other females nearby so it can guarantee its survival. All flower production ceases. Might as well chop the plant because it will not produce bud or trichomes after it hermies. This hermaphrodite situation can be caused by pruning too much and boom it thinks its gonna die therfore it hermies and various other situations. Some strains can handle alot of stress others not so much.

Flipped 4 weeks ago today. So basically 3 weeks maybe.

A good rule of thumb, if a leaf is blocking more mass from getting light than itself underneath it then remove it.
Yeah i realise that light will allow the buds to get bigger and better but i would've thought removing that many leaves would cause it to have less energy resulting in smaller buds.
I dunno, just don't want hermies this deep in.

Yeah, now im kind of scared i've trimmed too much over 3 plants ;(
I hope they don't hermie on me.

I hear what you are saying. He is running a small scrog, not an heirloom seed factory, so the risk is limited, just as the chances of anything bad happening.
I am more in the camp of selection than spontaneous evolution. If we never stress our plants, we are never going to be able to select for the trait of not hermying at the drop of a hat.

I agree but I would do most stress tests etc., in veg (running photoperiods) because they can recover if you have the environment right. I also think that gentics that hermi easily is because the conditions where the breeder grew the seeds out where PERFECT and any deviation of that will cause hermaphrodites like light leaks. Or the genes are too picky.

Will trimming half a shopping bag of leaves from 3 plants cause them to hermie?
Fuck i really hope they don't hermie as its hard to get seeds n everything here.
They are from left Dinafem Remo Chemo, Amherst Sour Diesel and Humbolt Purple Trainwreck.
I think i have a bit of phosphorus deficiency too as leaf stems are a little purple and lower leaves getting yellow and a bit of the top leaves are too. I think towards the end of flower there will be barely any leaves left now so a lot more light will penetrate through.

Dont panic. Leave them alone and let them recover. Look under the buds and in the buds EVERYDAY from now on to see if you spot hermies. I would do this for about a week. If you dont get any bananas then you have strong genetics. I use recharge for plants in stress and I would highly recommend you use it if you havent already. I would discontinue recharge by week 6 flower.

Unstable genes will. I literally have a 15-liter bucket next to my grow that I am continually putting leaves in.
They're well known breeders so hopefully they are stable :(

Okay, i won't trim anymore.. just yellow/dead leaves.
So in future.. do i trim or not? or do it earlier in flower/veg?
I feel like if i miss 1 banana im gonna have a whole lot of shit bud and ill be sad asf.
I was only meant to have 2 plants in there but had a mishap and have 3..so yes it probably is a little crowded.
What do i do my next grow with 2 so i don't have the same problems?

Thanks for your help guys and merry xmas, even though xmas day is over here :) 930pm xmas day.

Either way, they are better off now than before you started.
It took me quite a bit of experimentation before I realized how crucial it is that each flower is maximally exposed.

I might be in the same boat, what do you guys think?...

You can see where I defoliated before I put the SCROG on, 1 branch went in every 2" × 3" rectangle area, that enough space? Shes just finished 7 days of 12/12 (talking about the sativa)..

Strategically over the whole plant, thinning it by say 8-10% to start with.
The plants 2 days later..

Took 12 main branches as well as d-fo...

A lot of people try to encourage massive trimming, but the risks completely outweigh the benifets.
Trim, yes. But gradually, and not excessively. For one, the leafs are what take in all of the sunlight and photosynthesis. Yes, of course the buds are capable of that aswell, but it's a comparable difference.
A plant grows leafs for a reason right? Maybe I'm wrong, but I domt believe that reason is, that they grow them so they can all be chopped off.
And with trimming, comes potentially lots of stress, and with stress, comes the possibility of hermaphrodites. 1 leaf too many and bam, nearly all of your work as been for nothing.
As long as you have good airflow, then I would recommend trimming gradually. Every 2 or 3 days, go in and pick out the most important leads to trim off (the ones covering buds, the ones bunched together and causing risks for moisture build up).
Everyone's got different ways of doing things though. I see people completely lollipop their plants in one session and turn out alright, but I also see people do a minor defoliation and have hermies popping up a week later.
Things are looking good though! Definitely want to see how they're looking in a few weeks!

Day 14 of flower, 6 days after Sativa defoliation...

Had a bunch of water on the floor when I checked em today. I hope it was just an air pump that went out and siphoned the res water but I have no clue. I found the spill right before lights out so I filled it back up just a little to get them through the night but not sure where it came from. No evident leaks around rubber gromets, I watched them for 20min.

Anyone ever check their plants and have water on the floor? What should I be checking for and aware of?

I've got the same "plant pots" haha.
Is there drain holes in the pots? Maybe overfilled them?
If not that, then it must be a leak in the system somewhere

You shouldn't worry about cutting out those leaves to get more light and air through. One thing I don't understand is how people don't do it. A lot of commercial companies pack so many plants on tables then jam all those tables into their rooms. I know it's efficient with no light loss but damn how do they not get mold issues and condensation issues on leaves touching.
