Howya lads n lasses. Still making oil for patient, thought I'd share some findings and ask some quezzies. Bit of a lengthy post so apologies but for somone looking to make rso it may prove useful.
About the decarb....I now do it at the end rather than cooking the bud. Three major advantages imo, one is the lack of stink.

Using the above graph i heat the rso oil in a small stainless container in a vegetable oil bath and start timing when the rso comes up to 122c and maintain it for rougly 30 mins or just until the co2 bubbles stop being liberated. By this point there is still very tiny small cokecola type small bubbles in the oil but no new ones being liberated from the base of the heated container.
This is the second advantage, it has proven to make a stronger oil (at least in terms of thc) than decarbing the bud. From reading on it observing the bubbles seems to more exactly allow you tailor the amount of thc to cbdn.
Third advantage is the oil smells/tastes better, more like the plant and is less viscose and clearer.
Rick Simpson suggests cooking until its totally inert and I made one batch like this and its very heavily sedative. By this i mean one wouldn't wish to use it recreationally as yer total cabbaiste, but hugely effective for close friend whos insomniac. Just under one uncooked grain of rice sized dose is goodnighty nite.
Another thing I'm doing is not mixing first and second washes of the same bud. I keep second washes stored for a combined cook off. End oil is darker in colour, more paste like and not as strong as first wash. Mind you strength that wouldnt be an issue if mixed in with first wash.
Overall a concern would be an end user taking too much. Its potent and being blasé about dose could leave somone uncomfortably spaced out and beyond couch locked. Obviously not good for a sick person so Im experimenting emulsifying a couple ml of rso in 30ml of avocado oil and putting it in a dropper bottle. Rso will remain liquid in this state, especially so first wash oil.
A quick question on a byproduct of making the oil. Ive collected an amount of what remains in the coffee filters after filtering. Is this useful? Is it keif hash? Under magnification its plant trichomes but obviously post iso washed trichomes. If i was to compress this into a resin what do i have? Is it of use?
Also, there will i believe be a very different landscape in the next yr or two at least regarding the medicinal use of cannabis in this country which is great news as it works!
