Supplemental lighting?

posted this earlier but think i put it in the wrong section.

im currently on day 27 from sprout of my first grow.

4 plant scrog
4x4 tent
vivosun 600w mh/hps

this hood seems small and i suspect isnt gonna properly cover the full 4x4, i was considering adding some supplemental lighting before i flip to flower, 4x132 qb was the obvious choice , they seem to be all the rave.

can i have 1 driver run all 4 boards but have 2 boards on either side of my MH/HPS? or will i need a seperate driver for each side?

open to suggestions if anyone has any better ideas.

thanks

a 600 will do just fine and there will be zero use adding a led to a hps light it will make zero diff if u are gunna add something add a 400 or a 250 mh

ive read quite a few threads and articles regarding people adding Cobs/leds in with their hps lights as supplementation

my only concern is my 600w hood reflector is actually pretty small in comparison to others i have seen. just not sure its gonna hit the full 4x4 space.

Just want to maximize my yield and bud quality in anyway i can.

Thanks for the response, appreciate it.

Lol that's just down right wrong. Yes the 600 could be fine but that isn't in anyway maximizing his light vs space. I don't know how much those specific led panels produce but even if it was only a true100w each that's 400 more watts he would add. Plus he would be adding the benefit of the altered light spectrum most LEDs offer.

As a general rule lighting up more of the plant that isn't currently getting light will add benefit. Also as a general rule more watts equals more/denser buds.

Personally I have a 1k hps in a great white hood and get pretty decent coverage of a 4x4 tray. If I had the money I would run a true 1000w of LED and get even better coverage and spectrum. But that much LED lighting would cost an arm and a leg and it would be a wiring mess in my current area. My single air cooled hps is very effective and doesn't cost anything to cool.

Another fun option would be to get a new hood. One of the pythons I think they are called, that holds 2 600 watt bulbs would be sweet. Put yours in and get a 600 mh for the other side or 2 hps.

I like your first op idea well enough. I might think about hanging the panels on the side instead of over the top but it's all just options. There are so many fun and effective ways to build a grow.

Thanks very much, very informative .

I was actually thinking of hanging boards on either side of the 600w angled from wall towards centre of canopy.

Never considered side lighting, was planning on scrogging this run and just assumed I needed / wanted as much canopy light as possible.

If your gonna scrog the side light isn't as big or a deal, though I have seen people under light their scrog to really max them out.

A Scrogs are awesome when they are done right . I look forward to doing more eventually.

I saw an awesome grow the other day where the guy had QB panels hung in a circle around the plant. It looked very effective.

I've always wanted to build a room with 360 light coverage!

That sounds like a cool idea. Would be a fun setup

This is my first grow which also obv means first scrog lol, I'm following some good journals and tutorials , so far so good. I've done some topping and some lst training. I don't expect this first run to be as good as the guys I'm trying to emulate but gotta start somewhere hahah

Ordered the qbs should be here in a week

its depends where u place the light ;)ofc 2 would be better but one will get him thru

Spend your money on a larger hood. That 600 is enough for a 4x4. Get a cool tube or a large regular air cooled hood. Definitely cheaper shop lighting of any kind. New growers some times over think it. Don’t waste your cash if you don’t need to.
