Coco x Hempy system: good idea or not?

Sorry to post this twice, but I would really like an answer.

Modified hempy bucket idea:

5 gal smart pot filled with coco inside a 5/7 gal liquid buckets with the hole for hempy. Would only have to water like 1 or 2 times a week then?

Has anyone tried this, do you think it's a good or a bad idea?

Why mess with a good thing: because why can't it be better. I'm trying for a system I water less often, or automate something. I asked this question because I saw some guy who did Hempy say he was going to use coco in his pot so he could water less often. So I was thinking combining his idea with smart pots.

i did auto feed hempy buckets. all you need is a pump, a manifold, some tubing and a timer.

now i do auto feed GH waterfarms.

If you ever worked with coco you'd know how soggy it is. Retains almost as much water as soil. You dont want coco sitting in watter. It will stay too wet.

I've done coco hempies and they worked quite well.All I do is fill to just above the drain hole with straight perlite then fill the rest with 3parts coco 1 part perlite. I don't like to fill the hempies res for the first 4-5 days after transplant and after that I just make sure to overfill it once a week or so to remove any excess salts that may have accumulated.

There would have to be a space between the side of the smart pot and the side of the outer bucket to reap the benefits of air pruning. Why not just cut the plastic bucket down to 2" in height to create a makeshift 2" deep saucer for the reservoir pool and sit the smart pot in it? That way you could easily remove the old nute solution from the saucer and completely replace it via the watering process, and at the same time have maximum air flow around the smart pot.

I can verify this way works really well, I used a small tub filled with perlite instead of a bucket but then you just water the perlite and the smartpot will suck it up.
