Hello. I'm pretty sure I don't need to tell you guys how new I am at all of this so I'm just going to roll up my sleeves and get straight to the point if that's okay with you.
Being a newb I figured the best way for me to learn is to experiment with some bunk seeds out of a $20 bag of crunch so if I fail I'm not losing the farm, no pun intended. I have NO idea what strand/variety these plants are and all I can say is that it's not the best stuff I ever smoked, but it got the job done pretty well. If you can tell me by the pics then by all means please do so.
I began with germinating the seeds in a fashion I learned in good old science class from back in my school days: moist paper towel, on a plate, under a bowl. They sprouted in 3 days, all 13 of them. I only kept the four you see in the pictures because they looked to me to have the largest/longest tap roots and I just assumed they were the "healthiest."
I planted them in your everyday backyard soil in a pot to see if they sprouted from the dirt, and once they did I rushed out and purchased the most expensive bag of potting soil I could find at Lowe's (which turned out to be Miracle Grow Potting Mix with some kind of Miracle Grow continuous feeding compound that's supposed to feed for up to 3 months) and transplanted them into some freshly bought 8" plastic pots.
I always heard that lights are the most important factor and closeness of said lights play a major part in the plants' growth, but I had to make due with what you see here FOR THE TIME BEING. This is why I'm here. I bought 2 GE energy smart 90 watt (26 watt actual) CFLs that put out 1300 lumens each. I know this is nowhere NEAR what I need for my closet space of 4 sq. ft., but they HAVE to be better than the 60 watt incandescents I used to get them started, right? But I had a 250 watt Sylvania MH lamp in my cart prior to purchasing these lights and damned if I knew what a MOGUL base was. Needless to say I put the light back after talking with a clerk to do some home research on ballasts and what not lol.
How would you guys proceed with this set up? The light fixture you see is the best that I have ON HAND, and the only reason nothing else is up is because I have no idea what to look for in regards to lighting fixtures and wiring setups. What would you do with these four little guys (or girls I hope)? Also is this soil I'm using any good? Will I need nutrients? I'm watering every day, but MODERATELY. Just a couple of squirts here and there to relinquish my own fears of parching the younglings.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.
