Yellow leaves... PH or Nute problem?

Hey there.

Im a fairly inexperienced grower and am growing plants outdoors. Got some seedlings that im worried about and am not sure of what exactly is wrong.

One of them is a Dinafem Moby Dick seedling that is lime green and not as green as I'd like it to be. Never grown anything other than swazi before so I'm not sure if this strain is just this colour when it starts off.

The others are Dinafem Critical + 2.0. They are also yellowed and have some burning on the tips.

My regular Dinafem Critical + seedlings look fine.

I haven't added any nutes. And have them in professional soil mix that has coco coir, perlite, vermiculite, worm castings and bone meal as ingredients. Have been feeding them Reverse Osmosis water PH at 6.3

Any help would be appreciated.

Was thinking of just giving it time. That's why I haven't added any mild nutrient mix. Just plain water. Was researching epsom salts so might give them some epsom salt water on the next watering but that's it.

maybe it's just me, but i don't see yellow leaves..another poster looking for problems when there are absolutely none visible. You may possibly be able to increase feed very slightly, but there seems to be no issue at all...that's a weed plant growing!

As I say am inexperienced and paranoid as the seeds cost a fortune. Not looking for problems I can assure you. Just wanted opinions from more experienced growers. The only reason why I was worrying was the contrast in color between the Critical + & the Critical + 2.0. Plus the burning tips. Have attached a couple more pics.

I will take your advice. Was thinking of giving them time. What’s your opinion on the water PH I should be giving them. I don’t have a soil ph test meter yet.

Appreciate your advice.

Not all strains will grow the same..even same strains will react differently to feedings (different phenotypes). For the critical 2.0, perhaps either increase feed slightly..namely nitrogen and micros (slight chance that this is zinc related), or wait for soil to dry a bit more as perhaps it's due to overwatering. Im not sure what you are growing in exactly (professional soil mix), is quite vague, but your ph should be ok at 6.3...keep that as your max ph..your medium is likely mostly peat moss with the coco..if so, then 5.8-6.3 is ideal.
P.S. In that 5th pic (#736...), it's what i mean by maybe overwatering...it's still a seedling and i see the entire top surface is wet..the paling could be due to too much watering.

I don’t have a soil moisture meter but will order one Monday. I’ve never used soil with coco, perlite or vermiculite before so I’m still learning how to water this stuff.

Going to water next with Ph 6.0 I think. Perhaps the soil is slightly alkaline?

You can get a moisture meter..i, and many others, judge by the weight of the pots..it takes time to get used to. For seedlings..you don't need to water so the entire medium is wet (when in larger pots like yours are)..just enough to get the roots wet and give them some chance to expand. As for ph..i wouldn't think you have a ph issue at all...i would say continue as you were with regards to that..no need to change too many things all at once. Start with the watering, see how it goes..if she gets more pale afterwards..up the nitrogen for now.

For the size they are right now..assuming temp/humidity are at good levels, a seedling that size can go with maybe 1-2 cups of water every 3-4 days until they get a bit bigger. Every 7-10 days things change as they grow. Don't focus solely on the centre for watering...water in sort of a circle around the plant..say maybe 3-4 inches away from the stem..not right at it..this encourages roots to spread and grow in search of water as oppose to handing it right where they are.

How deep do I check to see if the pot is sufficiently dry? I’ll try gauge by weight but am still pretty new to it. Was why I wanted to get a moisture meter just till I get used to it. Sorry to ask more questions.

People will usually check maybe 2 inches deep, but that isn't rally indicative of how wet it is further down. If your air is drier, or you have a fan blowing on them..then the top 2 inches will dry out faster..its why judging by weight is a sure way as it doesn't lie. You just have to get used to how much it weighs when dry, damp and saturated. You can get a moisture meter now to help you along..they are cheap and i've seen others rely on them without issues. Though don't trust the soil probes to judge ph..the average ones are useless for that!

Will def pay attention to the different weights. But will use the moisture meter till I get my feet. I was gonna test run off ph but a lot of people say don’t bother so I haven’t. To me it seems a little touch and go. I want to get one of those rapid test kits. I’ve attached pics of what I mean. They seem from what I see to be more acurrate. If Jorge Cervantes says they’re ok I’m happy with that.

Runoff ph is quite unreliable..it's not a clear indication of what's happening at the roots. The soil tester is what i use as well. I reuse my medium quite a bit, so i use the tester to get an idea of where im starting off with in regards to npk when i start my new grow.
Just now saw that that's only a ph tester..i thought it was the npk and ph one. For my soil ph...i will use the one included in my tester, and i also do one with a bigger sample of soil as well..1 part soil to 5 parts ph neutral water..i let it sit for an hour or so and then test with digital ph meter. Results are the same as with the powder test above..but i like to make sure lol..i also check the ppm's at that point just to make sure it's back down to a 2-300 hundred range. Coming out of flower, i don't want to have alot of leftover nutes hanging around for the next grow

Do the soil testers tell npk levels too? Thought they just did PH.

Blitz35. Your advice was spot on. Over watering im sure. I left them for a good 8/9 days till they all were bone dry. They looking much better. Watered them today. Tried to do what you said as far as watering away from the stem. Was tricky tho. Will leave them for a good while until there next watering.
