So what are your thoughts on the whole defoliation experiment? I’ve been reading heaps of different articles lately some ultra pro and some mega against.. Its very confusing.
Even tho I pulled ample yields I’m not happy with the stacking even the tops. There were lots of nice size colas but they still had plenty of gaps. And I’m not growing for the “perfect” fully stacked cola per se but had someone tell me it was because i defioliated too much at the tops when I should have left them alone.
Thoughts..?

I'm not keen on the old "stacked" tops I like them to stretch a bit. Not sure about that guys opinion I'd say it was more strain or light related.
There's not a one size fits all defoliation method some plants respond well others don't seem to like it,and it's not just a matter of pulling leaf of you have to grow the plants a different way and adjust your feeding schedule to maximize any benefits.

Cuts from Blackwater, grape og, bubble bomb looking good... Texas butter clones starting to feel at home.... they get a harsh treatment early on, kind of an experiment I guess to see how they respond to stress.... C45F72B0-C1F5-4C6A-BDC5-F7E8DE20D967.jpeg
Think I’ll be keeping Blackwater around it’s stems are turning purple since I flipped it in flower

K u might need to elaborate on that for me to actually understand it. But all good if u couldn’t be fucked too. Was more curiosity than anything after this dude saying I shouldn’t have defoliated at the top. In the end it’s all the same size when u chop it so each to their own I spose. I think I’m future I’ll still do it to get light thru if a need too and for airflow if there’s just too much foliage.

There seems to be a consensus between reputable growers on this site that purple strains just don’t have that hard hitting punch, or that they haven’t come across one yet. (Not talking purple stems or leaves tho, actual purple bud strains).

Genetics are the main contributor to plant structure, plucking leaves isn't going to make the plant stretch between nodes more so if that's what they were trying to say then I'd ignore any further advice they try to give. When I first started growing all the stuff that was classed as "indoor" were mainly short stocky type plants like Afghans,N.L and Big Bud that would stack from top to bottom but needed plenty of veg time and didn't stretch much if at all,now a lot of strains will double in size from the time you flip so you can use that to your advantage. Different set ups will suit different strains with different structures, if you're using a 400 to flower you're not going to be able to have plants 5-6 ft tall but with higher wattage and D.E fittings you get enough light penetration to grow taller plants but you need to clean out some leaf to let the light get down deeper

Price wise doesn't seem much different than the hlg diy kits man? About 750+ shipping to make a 750 watt light, or can get a 620 watt hlg 600h kit for about 700 pre assembled+ shipping
The driver cost will pretty much be identical (within a few $$ anyway because different amps etc) but the bridgelux strips are the cheapest option per diode and per watt. The China quantum boards are a little cheaper but that’s because they aren’t as efficient and use a thiner copper matrix so can’t run as many in parallel as the genuine.

Where did you look to buy though? Go to digikey australia
Arrow is also good (and I found slightly cheaper than digikey) with free worldwide shipping. Also their customer service is on point. Got 2 batches of strips that where bent from poor packaging, got refunded no problem.

For the 1ft and 2 ft strips cutter electronics are also cheap (and Aus) just bought a bunch of 1ft 4000k strips. Literally the cheapest price anywhere.

that is with F-series strips which seem most popular. the f-series come in a few different sizes to suit different spaces but they all work out pretty close in price.

as far as building them go i think there are better people in this thread to ask who have actually done it as im yet to get around to it. but it looks pretty simple. wiring is very basic and you can pretty much just mount them all on a sheet of aluminium which im pretty sure if you can operate an electric drill you should have no problem with
Bridgelux are a little cheaper and are believed to be under spec’ed by he manufacturer. Haven’t seen anyone test it but people who’ve done the math on the diodes believe you could run 1-1.4A on the 1ft strips vs the 700mA bridgelux lists as the max current.

Yeah I see that on here too.... I just want to see some purple bud not just some leaves n that don’t care if it’s potent but would rather it to be. I like pretty buds to look at and smell too I like grape and that

I don't use it for my indoor, I use it on my orchard and going to run the outdoor plants on it this year.
Indoor its House and garden Coco for me,I've tried Canna,Cyco,General Hydro,Professors,Dutch Master,Green House Power Feed,Mills and Flairform and haven't found any of them gave the results that H&G does
Yeah I’m all indoor. Megacrop has been off Tits for the price. Like in 3 months I’ve used probably 1/2 kg so about $10-15 in actual costs. In the same time I’d easy go through a set of bottles of the AN 3 part I was using.

Was curious because they list it for hydro on the manufacturers website, looks all salt based. If there’s no precipitation I cant see why it wouldn’t be ok for indoor as well?
