I like Bernie but in this climate he doesn't have a chance. imho I wouldn't be surprised if rump gets in again. People only see short term. I expect the future to be tough in 12 years or so. I'll be dead easily by then.

Why do you take a good thing like people getting a raise and fuck it up with fake news? It was Bezos who made this happen. I guess we should be thanking him but I just can't do that. No mention of Sanders in the bit of fluff you linked us to. Trump could legitimately claim more responsibility for this than Sanders because it was his tax bill that made this easier to do.

Sanders has not gotten nothing done. He managed to get some post offices renamed and some solar water heaters installed on some govt. buildings. It's not that he's done nothing, I just don't think hes done enough since becoming Senator to show he's worthy of becoming president.

He submitted a $15 minimum wage bill last year. Why isn't it the law of the land already? Also, how is that universal health care plan doing? It was submitted two years ago, wasn't it?
It was media pressure and investigations into their workplace conditions that made Besos capitulate, their practice of using day labour and casual staff, almost impossible picking targets so they didn't have to employ more expensive full time employees was exposed and he had a major public image problem to contend with.

It's so convenient to order online from Amazon. I'm a prime member just because I like to read so much on my kindle but every time I come back to the US I order stuff. I'll get a couple new lenses later this month when I come back from the Philippines. I'll probably even do it from my Chinese made Xiaomi Max 3 smartphone.

When Democrats pass Sanders' bill and gets it signed, then he and you have something to crow about.

Bezos decided to do this. I'm not knocking the raise, just the desperation in your OP.
We listened to our critics, thought hard about what we wanted to do, and decided we want to lead,” Bezos said in a statement. “We’re excited about this change and encourage our competitors and other large employers to join us.”

Bezos decided to raise wages because of the pressure put on him by Sanders, Ro Khanna, activist organizations, and workers. Without the Stop BEZOS Act they introduced in congress, workers wages at Amazon would have remained supplemented by American taxpayers. Sanders devised a clever way to raise the wages of hundreds of thousands of American workers without going through a Republican held congress and a Republican president.

Like I said before, your acceptance or denial of the reality of this situation is irrelevant (like most of your opinions). To voters, Sanders get's to stick another feather in his hat as he gears up against Trump in 2020.

Amazon is hard to beat. I just ordered some home repair items. $160. Half price compared to blows or home depott. It's the same with tennis shoes. Can't beat the selection and price. I shop wisely.

"We listened to our critics" is the only part of this that you are getting your bernard propaganda from.

Dude, I thought you said your coworkers expected you to work harder.

OK, I'll concede. This is a win for Sanders and you guys. yay. Are other employers voluntarily lining up and committing to a voluntary minimum wage yet?

How is that bill he introduced doing, by the way? Well help is on the way. Something like six Sanders approved congressmen will be seated next year.

Politics is a marathon, not a race. I thought you supported pragmatism and incremental progress as opposed to radical change?

Like I said it was more about media pressure than anything a crusty socialistic politician did, he jumped on the bandwagon rode it and capitalised on the
Victory that was inevitable. Because Bezos is a corporate asshole who doesnt give 2 squirts of piss about his employees only profit for himself and pleasing the board, finally caving in to pressure and finally forced to do the right thing to protect image and profits.

I do support pragmatism. I'm certainly not going to carp about people getting a raise either. Just saying that those six people are going to have to be more pragmatic than I am if they want to get anything done next year. Let me check my assumption. Progressives(TM) DO want to get something done next year, don't they? What do you expect to get done?

As far as socialised medicine the lobbyists wouldn't allow it. I personally know a Canadian Dr. who practices up the road. He left Canada for one reason. He could make triple here. Plus he has 3 nurse practitioners as well. On average well over 7000 patients are seen a month. No benefits to his workers. In this medical mess we live in he is a bit cheaper so sees lots of cash patients. $65 office visits. $150 for labs. He's getting rich. He's been here around 20 years.

I could pay less than a tenth of that here in the Philippines and you might be surprised by the modern facilities and professional staff.

Then why do you deride it here when Sanders, activists, and workers accomplish it?

64 progressives have won primaries. Democrats will take the House this year, they might even beat the Republicans 57 seat grab in 2010 because Trump is so bad, it looks like a bloodbath. But because of moderate Democrats and the moderate philosophy of winning red states, Democrats might lose Florida and North Dakota, Missouri is still a question. Given the previous chart posted, it's clear progressives in red states would come out to vote for more progressive candidates. Hopefully Nelson and Heitkamp can hang on, but I'm not holding my breath. If either of them lose, and Democrats fail to pick up Arizona, Nevada, and Tennessee, Republicans will still control the Senate.

I expect Democrats to take control of the house and levy impeachment charges against Trump. Unless Democrats take control of the senate, those charges, I expect, will be met with deaf ears and Trump will remain president until 2020, when he will face the most popular politician in the country and lose in dramatic fashion.
