Roots Showing!?!?!? Unhealthy Hydro Need Help!!!!

Started from clones... cut about 2 weeks ago and with me for a little over a week can anyone tell me why the roots on my healthiest plant are growing to the top of the rockwool cubes instead of down into the solution?!?!?!?

Any info would help on a fix >>>>> Has anyone had this happen to them???

Were you watering from the top, instead of from the bottom up?

Gravity will pull them down.

i would make something that will cover the top of the rockwool so they don't get light on them

Well I soaked the cubes from the top orginally before i tranplanted the 1x1 cubes with clones. . .but the cubes are sitting in solution so i know that bottoms are fully soaked it doesnt make sense. . .i cut a 3x5 index card to cover so they arent burnt by the light any other suggestions????

P.S. I am editing this because I thought of something else it could be. You said they are sitting in solution. Maybe the bottom of the rockwool is too saturated and it's not getting enough oxygen and the roots are going to the surface to get air. Maybe try taking them out of the solution and just keep it somewhat moist by misting them. Remember, these little plants do not need much water.

And why is the rockwool cube turning green is that algae?

could be too many nutes, what kind of light are you using and how close is it? how big is the plant? what's ur ppm anf pH also? we need this to diagnose it. could be either problem imo.

Soaking the rockwool was a mistake, it should be only moist.

I'd well believe the bottoms of the cube are fully soaked!

Take them out of the solution, they are water logged, theres no oxygen getting at them roots.

Usually the leaves are droopy when overwatered, but i see your leaves have nutrient burn.

The best advice i could give you, is to sort the rockwool cubes out.
Hold the cube in your hand and gentle flick the water/nutes out of the cube witout damaging the clone, flush it with plain water pH5.8, repeat flicking the water out, flush with water and H202, flick the water out again and let it sit for 24 hours. And in the mean time find some system to feed them large rockwool cubes once a day.

What do you mean flick the water out I understand nute burn and flushing with fresh h20 but can you explain a little more on what you mean flicking the water out??? thanks I think they will be ok im just waiting now. . .ill post some comments and the ppm/pH when i can maybe tomorrow

It's likely that your cubes are over saturated and the roots have become oxygen starved. You need to let them dry out a bit between waterings so the roots seek water and grow downwards.

When you say find some system do you mean schedule? i have a pump 12 gallon resi and a million ft of tubing should i water each cube individually with a tube? or flush and resume flood and flow????

Ok, you have a flood and drain system.
When i say flick the water out of the rockwool, i mean like swing the rockwool and the wait of the water will push out of the rockwool. As Newgrowth says, let the rockwool dry out. Them young plant only need to be watered once every 2 days, then water them once a day when they can handle more food.
How much (what strength of) nutrients are you using?

Oh gotcha, I have been doing that gently since I thought it might have been over watering as well with a lil nute burn to boot and thanks for the explanation I just wasnt following you on the flicking concept but im good now. . .

I checked the roots again this morning and they are worse the entire topside of the rockwool is full of roots. . . im glad my little buddy has good roots and lots of them but why are they still growing upward i havent top watered for about 2 days and have flooded only once with a diluted solution of mostly H2O could the cubes still be too soaked to give oxygen to the roots?? Growth seems to be picking up in my runt as well seems like Im on my way to fixing the little ones after all. Thanks again I can use all the help I can get!!

Water less . . . maybe only once every two days like fitz said. The rockwool should be damp not wet. Let them dry bro, for plants that small I would be hand watering.

The light will sort them roots out, leave the card off for a few days. Let the rockwool dry out for a couple of days.

I came home late today about 1am and found my plants fully drooping (90 degrees) now I was flushing with H2O and stopped the daily flood until they got a little stronger and so the rockwool could dry out and for a while they were lookin better why so sad all of the sudden? Why wont these plants just love me back!

If I leave the card off the roots will dry out wont they. . .wont that slow growth? (Its my healthiest prospect for perfection)

the plants are about 9",10", and 11", in height. . .after flushing now on day two what strength would you recommend(1/4,1/2, etc) for nutes and at what week should I start giving them? they are about 3 weeks old and still just water? well not just water cuz I f*ed up and gave them nutes too soon but 2 days of flushing and no flood with lights on 20/4 wont dry them cubes out and depress them plants?

The roots are seeking upward because it's too wet below. RW is highly absorbent and can not tolerate frequent watering. Your droop is likely root rot beginning, due to overwet media.

Watering from the top means you have nice yummy plant food and water on a medium that is exposed to light. Any passing algae spore is likely to find it rather hospitable. Don't top water and the problem will never start. Once you have algae on the media tops, it'll be fairly hard to get rid of completely, but don't stress. It's on the top of the media, not in the plant's rootmass, so no harm done. Like any plant algae needs food, water & light. Take away as many as you can and it will slow or stop. Block light with a disc of panda film with a hole for the plant's stem and a slot on the radius for fitting.

Flood your RW blocks 1x/lights-on for about 1-2mins. That will be sufficient until the plants recover and grow more vigorously.

Treat your nute soln with 50% grade H2O2 @ 1ml/L every 3-4 days, will help fix the root probs, oxygenates the roots and will kill smaller colonies of algae.

50% grade h2o2 whats the diff in gades and where is the cheapest place to get it? its just water with extra oxygen right hence the H2O2?

can you tell me how many nutes you gave your clones and what nute brand you are using, plus if you are using hydro or soil
