This is only my second grow and my second harvest. My first grow was a Big Bud auto flower and I had some lock out issues but ended with around 4 Oz dry. Them smell and taste was off to me and never smelled or tasted like skunk. I have learned that I didn't dry and cure my bud correctly and this was why it didn't smell like I wanted. This grow is a free seed that I got when I ordered the BB auto seeds and is a regular plant called widow skunk. My issue is that both plants buds smell the same to me. I cut my widow down on the 21st and is now in jars for curing. Does all bud smell about the same before cured? I have decided to wait 4 weeks before I try the widow skunk but I am afraid it will never change the smell it has now.

It will go through many changes as it dries and cures. HOW you dry and cure will affect that as well. I am forever tweaking that process my self. I find myself wanting to dry it slower. It seems to make a better smoke.
But everyone is different. Also, how you trim will make a difference.

I left hanging for 4 days and then put them in jars. I open and shake them around every 12 hours

Don't shake gently stir with a chopstick if you must and don't fill jar more than three-quarters full, get a hygrometer that fits in the jar, its very cheap and it's the best single thing you can do right now to improve your process

What are they showing as far as humidity? Wet trim? In my experience, the smell changes for several months as they cure. I always try some right after drying, then again a month or so, etc. This is why I'm constantly tweaking.
Just my observation, but it seems that Indys change more that Satis?
But I grow more indys by far. And I let them go longer than most. I want solid couch/sleep for most of what I grow.

If it's 56% you're lucky you can still work with it, 55% and below it's done and it's just going to be dry bud, best used to make hash etc.
You definitely didn't jar too soon, you just barely caught it! Burp jar twice a day for 15 minutes for a week, then once a day for several more weeks, should be pretty close to what you want by one month, good luck!

If the bud is really bomb then it will taste great after a week of hanging. Obviously, it gets much better when cured but let's be honest, you can't jar up mediocre weed and expect a jar to turn it into something it's not. Get some different strains.
Not sure its the bomb or not! Both were seeds from a seed bank and considered to be salable to them. Neither came from "bag seeds" so not sure why you commented with what you did.
I grew two different strains from two different companies so I expected good weed to jar. I asked the question I asked to find out what I am doing wrong. The plants genetic shouldn't be the issue!
56% is inside the room the jars are in. The inside of the jars I don't have one that will fit in there yet so unsure about inside the jars. I have ordered some

the plants genetics can be an issue no matter where they came from. Thinking you for sure got a kill pheno just because you bought it off a seed company is silly. You need to do some research.

Hey! Don't clown bag seed, dude. I'm growing some right now and my two girls are not only funky and frosty, but they are going to provide some serious yield as well.
A seed is a seed. Environment and care are much bigger factors. Genetics don't mean a thing if the environment is shit, or if the gardener has no clue. Botany is a science, which means environmental factors must be on point for optimum production, bag seed or Jesus seed.
Well, coming from a newbie I want the best start I possibly could have. I have gotten better yields than I would have figured and both plants looked very nice. Both plants came from different places yet both tasted the same. This meant to me I am adding the taste or I haven't dried it correctly. Either way I want good smoke I produced myself. I made the bag seed comment because that the normal response I get.
I didn't think that nor did I say that. I am trying to get something worth smoking and since I am a newbie I want to make sure my process is on par to be successful. Both my grow produced buds and kinda nice looking. The first one I hung in my tent at like 18% humidity and the dried why to much. They were crispy when I checked 3 days later. This set I hung in the closet at 56% and 80 degree temps. After three days they felt dry on outside and I put them in jars. They have been in jars for 6 days and the smell is still the same

Maybe your drying to fast. Mine usually hang for 7-10 days before I jar them. And even then i could let them go a extra day or two.
