A Newbies First Grow

I would argue that your healthy, happy, huge green fan leaves are doing much more than 'serving no real purpose'. Remember leaves are converting sunlight into growth, even during flowering. The only reason I would remove healthy leaves would be if I was worried about circulation and mold.

Thanks. This is why they are still intact. I refuse to remove any green on my babies. I am so proud of my first grow that I want my two girls to be happy everyday like I am.
 
I haven't grow anything but flowers and vegetables for the last 10 years so I'm a newb all over again. Started my first new crop with kotton kandy Kush and they are doing great so far. Noticed the beginning of hair formation yesterday. Was aftaid all the smoke in the air from the wildfires was going to hurt because of the sunlight filter but I think it had the opposite effect. They started to really go nuts after the last week or so of 'bad air' I have been growing with Fox Farm products so far and they seem to take well. No nute burn so far and in about a week I'm going to start adding my duck poop wood ash slurry.

Agreed, also less green is less plases for pests to hide. Plus it's easier to see early signs when the undergrowth is cleaned up some. I'm trying to prune any leaves that are in contact, spots for moisture and pests to collect.
 
Flowering is in full effect right now with my 2 girls. Big Sis is much further along, but little one is holding her own. Hopefully some of the vet growers here can give me some ideas on:

1)Why are the leaves on my tops just standing straight up while all the stacking is going on? It is so tight in there it feels like skateboard wheel ball bearings on those top bud sites. I know health and nutrients are not an issue, just look at her!

2) Looking at where she is at now, hairs starting to turn brown and apparent swelling of cylax going on, she looks like she is on the verge of hardening up and starting some resin action. Pure speculation, but some of these bud sites are just swollen.

Here are some pics. I am learning taking captures from video is really effective in this environment.

Anywhere you see pistils there's a calyx, each calyx has 2 pistils. When pollination occurs, the pistil catches the pollen and the seed forms in the calyx. Of course you won't be seeing pollination hopefully. As flowering progresses, you'll see the calyxes stack and form the colas/clusters.

This is an exciting time after the work and care you put into getting the plants this far.

Some just stand up while other lay normally. I got half and half going. They are looking good and you will be seeing triches any day now

Sometimes I am just in awe while I am inspecting the two girls. Just beautiful plants that I have really enjoyed growing up to this point.
I know the real work is coming up soon, but right now I am just basking in my work! What a great 50th bday present I am giving myself with this grow!!

My son's birthday was on the 25th. It was also the first day we had under 13.5 hours of daylight in SE Wisconsin. It was also the day my tops really started popping all over my two ladies. Here is current state of my big girl:

I couldn't be happier with where my big girl is!!
 
So we have been getting waves of heavy rains now here in Wisconsin over the last 10 days. Flooding all over the place, with major rivers cresting all over the state. In my river basin area, the Milwaukee River is swollen, thus all the smaller rivers and creeks are swollen. Enough local flooding just to annoy me, as my garden is under a little over an inch of water.

Normally my garden gobbles it right up. But saturation of the Milwaukee aquifer has water standing currently, with a final round of thunderstorms tonight with the passing cold front. That could give me an additional 1.5+ inches of water on my land.

If water does not go down by 3pm, I am hauling my wetvac out there and sucking it up. I do not like my girls being under an inch of standing water while they are budding. I am very nervous and anxious right now!!

How's it going?
 
Found a weird looking pale, light brownish/pinkish spider no bigger than hole punch had webbed and camped out by one of my buds today. I was able to eliminate it, but it was the first bug I have seen make a home on my plants. I assume vigilance needs to be stepped up now during this bud stage. Hope that little shit didn't lay eggs somewhere. There was some leaf damage as well.
