I don't use any products other than base nutrients and now I'm mixing my own soil so I'll probably vacuum pack my stash of chemical salts I mix up in case I ever want to use them in the future. We'll see how it goes with homemade soil. If I'm not happy I'll go back to coco. But so far these seedlings are growing better than those I have started in several different name brand soils targeted to the cannabis industry. I like to say that I'm growing cannabis not supporting the commercial cannabis industry.
Homemade soil is better than anything you can buy.
I add up to 50% rubbed horse poop from GF's horse. Uncomposted. But only the apples without piss and straw. Not take the stuff from the stable...that stuff needs to be composted by compost worms for 15-18month before use.
But the pure poop I take from the round penn for example is just ready to go.
I do that for my tomatos since years and I dont use any ferts on them since.
Gf's owns more animals now ...chicken and others that I can use the poop for composting.
But I realy love horse poop it gives your soil a good structure (drains and feels a bit like coco when rubbed).
Just dry one rub n crush it in your hands untill its fine and youll know what I mean. Great stuff!!!
I add bonemeal hornmeal rockpowder wormcompost and what else I can get.
I mix all up in fall, together with the used soil from the finished season.
I make it a nice compost pile rudolf steiner style. That will compost untill next April or May.
Never had any deficiency.
The only thing that can happen is since you compost outdoors, that you have some bugs in the soil or eggs. But thats no problem outdoors but when you take the soil indoors you gotta have an eye on what is developing in it.
Got some huge beatles in it last year. Just collected em and brought em outside.
Peace
