Multiple Strains - Only One with Nanners

Running 7 strains in perpetual grow. Indoors. Flowering 6 plants in a good tent. 600 watt HPS in an air cooled reflector.

Alaska so temperatures are no problem . RH high when it rains otherwise average 55-60%.

Peat mix with no problems. I put in 2 plants a month average and chop 2.

Today I find the only strain with nanners and it's the 2 newest in the tent. Buds just forming in second week in the tent. Not just nanners but a frigging explosion of them on both plants (Bowser 29 from 3Beans Genetics in Wasilla).

Obviously out the door. I have given myself a headache examining my Gum, an Abduction Sour Diesel auto, Bering Sea Blue auto, a NorCal Nacho and not a single nanner so I'm ruling out environment.

My question is what in hell is causing nanners that early? I just had them out 2 days ago and didn't notice any.

Regular seeds.

I'm Uncle Butthole here for not screaming pride at anything Alaska. This steain threw 2 distinct phenos. 6 of the 10 were male. Not impressed there.

The squat bushy pheno put out hard buds of sweet orange. Incredible. But yield could have been better. I vegged the second lanky phenos a month longer waiting to rotate. Took topping and supercropping well. These are the 2 that popped nanners . I've never seen anything like it especially this early. Pissed me off.

The breeder is a snob. Younger here adore him. His seeds are now in several seedbanks. Beware.

Add: And a pro grower friend just texted me back "Yeah and even when older watch them for hermies. They tend to do it."

G'day hotrodharley,

My very honest opinion...its genetic. Its the sex of the plant. The plant is an Asexual. Not a female.
Hermaphrodites are a gender. Just like boy, and girl.
It's genetic.

If they're from regular seeds. Then the original parent female was likely hermaphrodite. Then was pollenated by the resident male.
This means there will be some boys, some girls, and a high frequency of hermaphrodites.
On the other hand if the hermaphrodite pollenated itself, then every single seed is a copy of the parent. Every seed will be hermaphrodite.

My guess is the parent mother was Asexual, and was pollenated by a male. But also pollenated itself as well.

Bad luck brotha.
Maybe you could contact the supplier, and tell them whats going on?
Might even be able to get a replacement or refund?

I feel your pain dude. Iv'e had the misfortune of growing hermaphrodite plants more times than i care to admit, or remember.
Mistakingly seeded some of them too.

Peace,

:peace:

The neighbor tells me the same thing happened to him. Balls and nanners. I've just never had both on the same plant and so young. Barely forming bud early.

I am going back to some landrace strains as @JohnDee and i have discussed. All these engineers breeding unstable shit.

The neighbor ended up with 1 female out of 10 seeds that grew out normally. Wish i had known that.

And 1 normal female out of 10 is all i got. Then before weirdness set in used a very stout male to pollinate my CBD plant. Hoping to increase bud weight and give it some tsste. I have 2 of those seeds growing right now.

Edit add: i HAD 2 plants growing from crossing one of these males with my Harlequin. Shit. I yanked both. One generation of weirdness is enough.

I'll get some cheese to go with the whine in a minute. I'm pissed. First, last year I bought "genuine" Chemdawg seeds from a guy now in legal business in Nevada. He had 20 and sold both packs to people in Alaska. All 10 hermied. Every single one . He told me he'd check with the other people . Never got back. Won't answer emails.

Bought pre-98 Bubba Kush this year. Greybeards . He swore they were his private reserve. Bullshit. Cali Connection. Weak ass plants. Spindly. Never gave them the chance to show sex..I had no clue Cali Connection was the breeder until i complained. No refunds. No replacements. Fuck Greybeards .

Now these pieces of shit. I've had better luck growing southern Mexican strains guerilla carrying Miracle Gro turquoise. Saw maybe 2 hermies in 10 years maybe.

Harley,
That's the longest post I've ever seen you write. Got you impassioned. You and your neighbors should do a class action lawsuit...if only.

Hey, you mentioned Harlequin. I'm a latecomer to the cbd bandwagon. First tried cbd just a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised. BC Bud Depot has one called Harlequin Bx4. Supposed to be a medium thc high cbd sativa leaning strain. Any experience with that one?
Cheers,
JD

No not that one. These high CBD strains don't produce. Small buds and invariably taste like shit. I'm trying to get some flavor while maintaining a decent CBD level. Crossed it with Headband last year. Barely improved the yield but not the taste.

Seems like seed banks are going rogue in light of the newly liberalized environment. I purchased 5 strains from northern seeds or whatever in Canadia and all but the cheese were garbage. I had my bank get the money back. Point of the story is I can see this becoming an issue into the future. I think it's time to ensure your own genetics and not rely on retailers. IMHO

Hi Elfwood,
I tend to agree with you, however, there are still some seedbanks with a proven history and rep. I'll stick with them if they did good for me 10 years ago...and hope they haven't changed.

Problem with being my own seedbank is that eventually the seeds get old and non-viable. Don't laugh...if this hasn't happened to you yet, it will. I've been through it three times now. Back in the game after a layoff...and now, just like me, my seeds have aged.

Thanks Harley,
I'm totally unfamiliar with any cbd strains. Yield is always nice...but for cbd medicinal use, I think oral ingestion is best which side-steps the taste issue for me. Backache? Eat a snickerdoodle!
Cheers,
JD

We extract mostly. The bad taste comes through a lot. Smoking is ineffective for most due to low levels of both CBD and THC actually delivered. Therapeutic dosages require concentration and ingestion. Edibles and concentrates are hot.

Did not know that...learning lots this morning. My last trip to the dispensary...when I said I was interested in CBD the guy offered me some high CBD bud to smoke. Glad I didn't buy it.

I actually have limited experience with edibles. Just old school canna butter and then I make cookies with it.

I do have a large tub of coconut oil I wanted to try. It would be cool to be able to make capsules but that seems kinda finicky for my large fingers. Good luck with your Harlequin cross.

I'll level with you. I'm this upset because I had to chop this one plant before the full moon. Silly but i plant and flower by moon cycles.

Check this article. With your experience you should get into it a bit.
