How is this COB LED build?

I’ve been roughing up a build, need help with some advice about how exactly to plan it. I plan on making my own frame, and may go with active heat sinks I found on Newegg for cheap. Is it necessary to have a heat sink for each cob, both passive and active? Is 6 Vero 29 cobs close to a 600w hps all all. Obviously it matters how much energy your giving each cob. Also should I run a bigger driver like this or two smaller ones?

I do not rate leds and practice growing not what they preach here, theres plenty of builds just take your pick and follow their instructions in the led forum.

We disagree here but i am long time grower so not a lot you can do but state your version of leds. As to building them its quite a simple affair, that is once you choose what it is tou want Zzzzzzzz Zzzzzz

I’m aware of the plenty of builds that exist. I’m also aware of how to put them together. I’m not looking for the type of input you’re giving, as its actually not even input. How about some efficiency differences between strips and cobs, or the benefit of certain aspects of each component. I’m not looking for a “yep, nope, pick one, it’s fine”. I’m looking for actual information on the cost and efficiency of certain led builds or general ones, thanks.

I’ve actually decided to go with a 320 watt Samsung f series build. Although there doesn’t seem to be any definitive information on the efficiency of growing with COBs vs Strips. I guess the technology is pretty new and its only us reefer heads who seem to be the most interested with new light technology, haha.

You won't get the same with 300w of leds as you will a 600w hps, you'd be better off with around 450-500w to have an equivalent light.

Nah there’s a lot of stuff in the aquarium community on using cobs and strips builds and light for reef tanks. There’s plenty of stuff out there either is going to be good.

My opinion..
I would look to replace my 600 watt HPS with around 500 watts of LED.
When it was my money, I replaced my 350 watt HPS with a 320 watt LED.

Light, enough light, is key.

I agree and appreciate you pointing that out.
It’s not to crucial if it’s the equivalent, I’m mostly just interested in building my own decent led light for a small 3x3 area for personal growing. I grow outdoors mostly, and although I have a few 600w HID setups, I can’t be bothered with them. I’ve had bad luck with ballast quality in the past and it’s so uncomfortable under a HPS.

And Lord,
Yes the aquarium community is definitely a part of the discussions, I wonder if they get as in depth or care as much about par ratings, and efficiency.

Simple answer is yes. It has to get down and grow coral and other plant life underwater.

That sucks about ballasts , i recommend galaxy grow amp ballasts, have had several for over 4 years running at least 12/12 everyday non stop the entire time. And if your growing in a 3x3 i'd recommend a CMH , not an LED, CMH has a much better spectrum and you will get higher quality flowers and most likely just as much or more.

I just bought me a 630 de cmh I’m finally going to try. I haven’t used traditional lighting in awhile but I love the spectrums I’ve seen.
