Question for the COB guys...

Ok so I am looking at timber grow lights... I have a 2x2 scrog area I need a light for. I am looking at the 2VL for $299 and the 2TS for $399. I think I understand the 2vl has higher quality COBs but only 2 of them and the 2TS has 4 COBs that I believe are slightly lower quality but spread out more even. Both are 200 watt setups. Which would be better for a 2x2 scrog does it not really matter?

I may need to buy 2 more of these lights later...

More spread is always superior.

Well I could order a quantum board fixture that is almost the exact same footprint as my grow area... But it is rated for a larger area... I would literally have led panels covering almost every square inch of my scrog...

Drivers are dimmable for this reason, mate!
You can also use a smaller HLG-185H-48A if you like to have only 200-220w. With an HLG-240H-48 it would be for example 260-280w. Simply ask Dan for a siutable 200w driver, he always strives to offer its customers the best possible service and experience. Pretty sure you can change the driver and save a few bugs in the same time.
BUT, there is one thing you should think off..
LED quality fixtures run for a long time(at least 10 years or so) and maybe you get a 2x 4' tent at some future point, who knows...?
I would rather have a bigger fixture and dimm it down a bit. In veg and early flowering stage you dimm it down anyway and a bit more light will not hurt. You could add some CO2 to make better use of it...

I realy like the idea of covering the whole ceiling with diodes. Good uniformity already at 6-8" below the boards and almost no shadows or hotspots because of multiple diodes. That allows the light to penetrate down to the ground...

I do literally the same with 20 Samsung F-strips(1440 diodes) and my 450w light is also dimmed down most of the time because I have only 10sft and don't need all the light. Only from bloom week 4-7 it runs fully ramped up when there are no other limiting factors. If it's too hot inside I have to dimm it down to get optimal conditions in summer sometimes down to 250w.

I am not used to running lights that i dim down. why would you do this other than for heat? I was going to run 2 2x2 scrogs in a 2x4 tent... now i am thinking of just running one 2x3 scrog in the same tent and if i need the other 2x1 area for a small heater... fans... humidifier or whatever, i will have it. Timber offers a 4 samsung panel light that is 480 watts and it says it is suitable for a 3x3 space. it is actually 34" x 19" and my grow space would be 36" x 24". would i get a bigger yield potentially with this light? or is it just overkill? they also offer a 6 cob light that is only 300 watts but is still 35" x 20" and it is also $130 cheaper than the samsung panels. would this work just as good as the samsung panels? I am not new to growing... just new to growing indoors. Like anything i take a great interest in i really enjoy educating myself thoroughly on the topic but it can be hard to get specific info on some topics. lighting is one area i am finding it hard to find specifics on .

480w is overkill and fully ramped up the HLG-480 is up to 550w. A HLG-320H-48 would be 350w and is enough for the whole 2x 4' area. Most of the time a HLG-240 is adviced for a 2x 4' area(260-280w). More light means more yield but the profits gets smaller the higher you go. Without extra CO² 700-800μMol/s/m²(35w/sft) seems the sweet spot, with CO² you can use 1000-1200μMol/s/m² or even more but it get's more difficult. You need probably 25-50% more energy but you only get 15 to 25%(CO²) more yield.

I could bet ledgardener.com is a website you'll really like. Lots of example builds there with COB's, Quantumboards and LED strips, a DIY calculator tool, lots of useful info's about drivers and how to use them and so on.
All in all you will find almost all info you need about the topic and everything is packed in neatly illustrated instructions. I'm sure you'll love it.
Of course you can also learn everything you need here, but it will probably takes a bit longer.

Ok thanks. I'll check out the website you suggested... To be honest I'm glad i will be better off with something in the 200-250 watt range. It's cheaper to run and cheaper to buy. My currently owned P300 doesn't seem to be so horrible when put in perspective. I would still like to run a 2nd tent with a 2nd light .. but this now opens up a lot of options for me. Thanks.

Bro I used 140w of led strips, Eb gen1 , for a 2x2 with one plant and got 198 grams in a 4 liter container coco grow with room for improvement.
