Buy a RO filter for your water. It's really a huge advantage to start from ZeRo Ppm.
What's the water temp man? If you're hanging around 75*+ you're most likely going to end up rotting the roots in due time.A couple days after res change. The oldest root on the right is turning slightly brownish. It was the original root. Should I be concerned? Water has no smell really and is clear.

IIf you've got the funds for a chiller and are just waiting for rot to justify buying it, I'd really suggest you get it, man. They make your girls sooooooo much happier and the water stays so much cleaner over such a longer period of time. Its just such a great thing to use.Varies from 74-76. I chopped off the brown one this morning. I did not want it in the water. Everything else looks fine on all the other plants.
That root was first in the water. When I planted these seeds three weeks ago I did not use enough Hydroguard right away cause I misread the label.
I am pretty sure it started to get shitty then. I caught it within a few days. Ever since the Hydrogaurd and Orca the water has stayed pretty fresh over the course of a change. No funky smell.
A chiller would be ideal, but I am going to let it ride for now. My first time growing anything at all, anywhere.
I will cough up the 330 for the active aqua if these rot basically. I bought a bottle of Physan-20 in case it needs bombed.
I smelled that root once I had it off the plant. It smelled fresh. Like a vegetable or something. I am not going to sweat it too much unless more turn brown.
You'll either need to run a sterile res using h202 or pool shock, or add beneficials such as hydroguard (active ingredient bacillus amyloliquefaciens) that will fight pithium (aka root rot). Unless you can keep temps consistently in the high 60's/very low 70's.Varies from 74-76. I chopped off the brown one this morning. I did not want it in the water. Not sure if you are on IG or youtube at all, but there is a guy that goes by the name LokiGro that I highly suggest you check out. He runs multiple RDWC's and posts a lot of great content on his channels. He actually runs what he calls a "dead" system, and uses pool shock. I know I know, I say the same thing, but I can't argue with his results. Not my grow style of choice, but I give credit where it is deserved. Thanks for the tip. My meter only does ppm so I will do the conversion.
The only reason for not getting a chiller sooner is the conflicting information I have been reading. Lots of people say to get a chiller. You will also find a bunch of people who don't use them.
One reason I would get a chiller though is that fact you dont need to change res as often if you can get your ppms and ph down. That sounds appealing to me.
You said they look hungry? What about them is telling you this? These are the first plants I have looked closely at so if I can learn little things to look out for like that, it would be very helpful to me in the long run.
Thank you guys for your input!
Fuck in so jealous of you. I've been trying to hint down a used 1/15,1/13/, or 1/10 HP one for a good deal usedFucking Aye. I met up with a guy in town who grow RDWC as well. I am picking up a Ecoplus 1/4 hp Chiller in the morning for 175 from him, almost new. My system is about 20 gal. That should help me out a bit. Everyone on here who said I needed a chiller.....good advice. I would have gotten a 1/10 but I think a 1/4 will save me some money in the long run because it will not need to run much to keep my res chilly. I will just match the pump to the flow of the chiller. I will update tomorrow once I have her in.
Should I run Orca and Hydrogaurd with the chiller? Thanks!
No h202, hydro guard of anything of the sort is necessary when you're chilling around 67*fFucking Aye. I met up with a guy in town who grow RDWC as well.
