2600 watts and 5 plants.

I'm at week 4 in flower with 5 lemon Jeffrey plants. I have two 1000 watt HPS lights as well as one 600. The plants are In 15 gallon pots and are huge now (5 feet). The plants that were under the 1000s grew way larger than the ones under the 600. I should of been moving them around but I didn't.

Well now I am noticing the buds under the 600 watt light are growing bigger than the ones under the 1000s. I'll be moving the lights all the way to the ceiling now because I'm thinking the lights are to close and that is causing the smaller buds on the plants under the 1000s. If anyone has any input as to why this may be happening that would be great. I will post pictures tonight when I am out of work.

Your thinking/reasoning of the higher temps sound like a good explanation for the smaller buds with everything else being the same across the board. I wonder if it could also be due to the size difference in height like since there are more stems and leaves it takes more effort for the taller plants to put into budding.

Have you compared the number of buds of the bigger vs. smaller?

The number of buds are the same. Each plant has at least 6 main colas and at least 20 branches coming off them all at about the same height. By far the biggest plants I have flowered. The tallest plant is 5.5ft and about 3ft wide. I'll take pics in the morning when the lights are off.

20180627_064913.jpg day 43 of flower. The next pic I'm posting is my grow inside of a tent that I did last summer. All the plants are the same as well as soil and nutrients.

They only difference between these two grows was the grow tent. And now I have another hps light. As you can see they are a lot larger than what I have going now. As well as they are a lot more frosty. Anyone tell me why? Is it really because of the tent reflecting light so well? 1511303831950544799143.jpg 1511303789404912390654.jpg

Another difference would be that the lights are a lot closer than they were the first grow. But there is no bleaching or odd colored leaves. I add nutrients every other day. (They have never showed signs of needing more food) I see some peoples grows and they have there lights feet away from the plants. Well mine are less than a foot away but I keep my room at 71 degrees so the lights aren't hot at all. I can touch the glass all day. I'll be painting the floor white soon and hanging up mylar.

With having the lights closer there would be less stretching of parts, so maybe that, along with your tent reflectivity, could cause the size difference in your buds.

Damn I wish I pay an extra 220. But that is with the ac and like 8 fans. But then again yield is like 2.5lbs. So it pays for it self 3 times over. I have 5 plants all ready to put into flower as soon as these ones are done. I like to have a harvest every 3 months.

And my next grow will tell me if it was because of the reflective material or not because I will be adding it. This bud last grow was 27.8 percent thc when I had it tested. Had a 25 percent yield on bho. By far the dankest. If anyone has any other tips on why the buds are smaller with less frost on them please chime In.

You may try to figure out if it's possible to do it differently, or if it even matters to you. The $110 number comes from a average electric cost is 10 cents per kwh, 2.6x12x.10x30. So the last 110 is your cooling costs. A average 20 inch fan pulls about 120 watts. A 8 inch inline is around 200 watts. An A/c can range from 1000-1500 watts.
I'm running a single 1000 watt bulb and a 8 inch inline fan and a 10 inch inline fan, and 1 12 inch fan. My costs are pretty low. I think it would be little hard to run 2 lights at the peak of summer heat but right now my canopy temps are 70-72 running at night just pulling in lots of outside air. Been in the mid 90's during the day all week but stays in the low 70's in the room because I deal it up each morning with that nice cold air.

Could be a few reasons they are smaller.. heat stress, being more windblown, plant could be getting ready to put out some dense marbles, it ain't over yet still could pack on the weight an oil. Sometimes little factors can change the speed of flower and a clone that normally finishes in 8 weeks need 9 one run for a reason you may not notice. Generally its water stress, heat stress, wind stress, or other things like bugs/PM but delayed flowering happens

Yeah my ac fights with me in the summer months. When the temp outside is 90 my room will get to 75 with the three lights at 100 percent.

My plants are also in 15 gallon pots as well. Idk if that will make a difference because the roots would of had a lot more room. But my other grow was in 5 gallon pots.

Thanks again for all the info. At this point I'm just wanting to pull 3lbs off my three lights.

could it possibly be that your temps were higher in your previous tent grow? 71 seems a bit cool

Well my room is fairly large and I have the temp gauge on the other side of the room. so under the lights I'm sure is close to 80. If I made the whole room say 76 degrees the lights would get to hot. And the temp in my last grow was way lower and less controlled. To be honest the pics of my tent grow was my first actual grow. By far my best to.

One difference is that I took off a lot of fan leaves on these plants. I did it two weeks into flower because there was so much growth. All the leaves grew back but I think it might have impacted my bud development. My lights are no more than a foot away right now.

Sounds like a lot changed to me.
Couple things off the top of my head are buy more fans to move that air around the room faster, you'll notice buds next to the ac will be a lot different that the ones away from it if you dont, and not always in a good way. Also buy a infrared thermometer so you know leaf temps at any given spot. Make sure there's reflective material on the edge of the plants so light is reflected back
