Cloning Help

I am attempting clones for my first time. I just made the old foldgers can bubble cloner that I found in the DIY section on here. As far as I can tell it works great, plenty of bubbles.

The problem is it's been a week and my clones are growing new leaves and not roots. I didn't put anything in the water, just ph'd tap.

I've had clones that rooted in less than a week, and some that took upwards of a month to show any kind of roots. Keep your water fresh/clean and eventually you'll have some nice rooted clones.

No nubbins yet? Relax, give it another week. I always cut diagonally across a node and scratch the sides of the stems a bit with the scissors, seems to speed things up a bit.

I did this technique with a razor blade. Probably just a patience deal.

Well you have patience if you do it with a razor. I use dirty old trimming scissors those fiskar microtips. Roots are coming duder you did everything right it seems.

I'm all in on it for about 10 bucks (minus the coffee), so I'm hoping it works.

I take it off when I'm messing around in there and sometimes barely put the bag over it. In my mind with the slits cut up the sides and the bag not being stuck around the can, it allows a little more airflow. It seems to dry out in there faster when I do that at least.

I just stick my cuts in a gallon of water from the hose. Cut on an angle and set em on the porch. 7 to 12 days later they're ready to plant and sex.

It just seems weird that it's growing leaf but not any roots yet.

Looking forward to the root pics! For shits and giggles when you're pruning and don't need clones, throw some in there without the humidity bag just to see what happens.

The leaves are supplying the water slowing the roots down but they're coming.

what medium will your plants go into?

Plants create different leaves and roots depending on where it develops.
I like rooting cuttings in a similar medium to what they will be transplanted into.

I plan on putting them in soil. I considered using rockwool cubes, but this way was available to me to build without having to go get anything or order anything.

I have no idea whether that's true or not, so I'm going to take your word for it. It's at least a possibility for sure. I'd leave the bag off to see, but at this point I probably wouldn't be able to tell if it had an affect or if it was just a product of time.

Never even thought of it. I'm tempted to cut a couple off and put them in cups of soil and see what happens.

In winter I can clone virtually any plant in my garden by just sticking branches in the soil and letting the rain keep it moist.
The most important relationships your plant will ever have are with the microbes of the soil.
The quicker roots contact them, the quicker the signal goes to the plant that it is worthwhile making an effort as there is a community ready to feed it.

You generally don't need a humidity dome on a bubble or aero cloner.
If its too humid it slows rooting down.
