Homemade oil for my vape pen

I have a hard time finding the oil cartridges for my vape pen so id like to make some of my own if its not too much of a hassle. What is the procedure that I want to look up to learn how to do this?
I've only tried a couple different brands of oils, I forget the name of the one with a button on the cart but them were junk I thought. I was happy with the high society oils. Thanks for any and all help :peace:

You want to look for a Quick Wash Ethanol extraction (QWET) method. skunkpharms research has a good TEK that many are following with success. I've just done a run to make into ejuice.

You want to get all your materials extremely cold--freeze everything at least 24 hours, or even better, pack everything into a small cooler with dry ice (put your herb in a ziploc, but your ethanol in a jar, and place them in the small cooler with dry ice for 2 hours or so, coffee filters or mesh strainer. i use a 25 micron extract bag). put an empty jar with lid in there too.

once everything is cold as balls, put your herb in the cold empty jar and then pour your cold ethanol over it. seal it up and give it a shake. If you're using bud, you can give it an aggressive shake, if trim it can be gentler. For dry ice, because it gets everything so cold, you can do a 20 minute wash (agitate every 2-5 minutes) without too much concern about chlorophyll and fats. For a freezer, keep it to a 3-4 minute wash with agitation every minute.

If you went with the dry ice, just strain through your strainer into a pyrex or silicon dish that is as wide and flat as you can get. cover with micron mesh, a splatter guard or a light piece of wax paper. sit it on a seedling mat with a gentle fan blowing on it. the ethanol will evaporate in 24-36 hours (if you're doing a quart to half gallon amount). scrape up your remains with a razor blade and put into your preferred blend of propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin--i've used 50:50 PG:VG successfully.

If you're going with the freezer method, you'll want to strain the mixture after the 3 minute wash into a jar and place that jar in the freezer overnight to winterize the solution. this will bind up some of the chlorophyll and fats. strain this through a coffee filter into your dish and evaporate, again with seedling mat underneath the dish, a screen to prevent dust etc. getting in there, and a small fan to help it along. scrape up the hash and mix it into your PG:VG mix.

To help the PG:VG mix dissolve the hash, you will want to put your vessel into a double boiler and stir until dissolved. After it's mostly dissolved, whip the mixture to emulsify it. I use a rotary tool with a nylon buffing disc to stir the mixture at ultrahigh speed so as to create an emulsion that won't separate in your tank.

5-7g QWET/ 30mL PG:VG is pretty good strength for me.

Sounds like quite the process. Any estimates for roughly how many cartridges worth of oil some good bud would yield? I've got about an oz of some saved back bud that I'd make it out of.

Yep, that's what I do.

There's other products out there besides wax liquidizer btw. Holy terps is one that comes to mind. Some people use MCT oil.

But yeah, rosin press is what I use.
I don't have a rosin press but have thought about getting one. What do you have for a press and how much did you pay? You pretty happy with it?

I'm happy with it. The press I bought is a Dake B-10. The plates I use are from lowtempplates.com. The total cost all-in was about $800.

Time will tell whether it pays off or becomes a money pit. The main reason I bought it was to press dry-ice hash. Although I've only pressed flower on it so far, I have a lot of trim I'll be making dry-ice hash with in the near future for pens. I just got tired of making bubble hash with all of my trim.

I was hoping to find a decent one in the 300 to 400 price range, are they mostly junk at that price range?

A press? Mine new was $400, the Dake B10. The plates were also around $400. If $300-$400 is your price range for a press then you can definitely get a good one.

Is that for the heating plates and press separately? I was hoping for the both of then to be about 400 total. Doable?

The plates were 400 and the press was 400. You can get away with a harbor freight press for under 175, but look into reinforcing/replacing the bolts because of the overall force and pressure applied.

Is it tricky at installing the plates to a press? Or are there different size attachments that I have to make sure I get to make them fit or is it all universal?

I think I want to go with the 20 ton harbor freight press, just need to make sure I get the right plates for it. Will there be anything else I'll have to buy to get it going or just the press and plates?

I just have a question about the end of your post, for stirring the mixture together so that it doesn't seperate. I don't have one of those tools you mentioned for stirring, would it be adequate enough to use the syringe to still swiftly with? Any rough idea on how long I should stir if that's the route I take?
I've got a little over a quarter of shatter of all different strains to make into oil for the carts. Other than the mixer you mentioned I have everything I need and am ready to go. Just want to make sure I don't screw anything up if simply hand whipping with the syringe isn't enough

Can you not just add a little bit of Ethanol to your shatter?
Ethanol, as in gas?

I used 1.5 ml PG to 1.5 ml VG to 1.5 gram shatter. Heated and stirred for probably 15 mins pretty swiftly. Put it in a cartridge and after a few mins began to seperate and ended up plugging up the cartridge. So I poured it back in and turned the heat back on. Double boiler, not boiling but small bubbles on the bottom pan.
Hopefully I can make this work. I'd love any tips

It's now been in the boiler for probably going on 45 mins. It appears cloudy/tanish brown, and when I put it in the tank looked to be a lot of cloudy settlement rising to the top

I used a 12-ton rosin press to make the shatter with 120 Micron bags. I believe there was a blowout with this particular batch but I was careful to pick out all pieces that I saw mixed with the oil. Just a handful of teeny tiny pieces I picked out everything I could see after I pressed it

It looks to be much better mixed now, but there's stir a layer of tan sediment floating on top after stirring. At this point I'm kind of worried that I may have converted thc into cbd having it cooked so long, I'm all ears if anyone wants to teach me. YouTube didn't have much info that helped me. It looked like all of their mixes went pretty quickly with no problems.
