Does Veg Time make a difference? Your Opinion..

How long do you veg?
Does it depend on anything?

I'm so curious because I believe vegging longer makes a stronger plant and able to support bigger buds. But not just veg, but intense training in the branches like main lining.

But I have an experiment going on in my indoor Grow.

These 4 plants are not trained, not really. I let them bush out and then flipped the switch. 2 months or so in veg with little effort out into them.
I don't think I'll get mugoj as the stems are lanky and let's say not like a tree lol they couldn't handle a strong wind.

Amnesias training, she is going on 5 months and is in flowering same with blueberry only she is almost a year old lol

So what's your opinion on vegging king plus training to make the plant as strong as you can?

Waste of time or worth it?

I'd say a waste of time, if your aim is to finish with the best in quality and quantity, in the least amount of time.. The first 14 pages of this thread my show you that time is not such a great enhancer of yield.. and then again it may not. https://www.rollitup.org/t/pineapple-express-g13-labs-seed-to-harvest.344359/
It changed my ideas on how to grow, and that a longer veg time was better... This grow in this less than 3 mos, from sprouted seed to harvest;... 25 days from sprout to flower...

I find that topping gives me a better quality Harvest. I get less popcorn and the bud is a bit more denser due to having a more even canopy.

Very interesting views; as I have this OCD to veg for at least 4 months I get trees.

Last years plant, now this is my own genetics and I grew her inside from march to may then out her out and she flowered in August.

She was beautiful, she got ripped along with 3 of my other beautiful heavy yield plants that needed a few more weeks so they didn't even harvest them at full potential.. anger lol

If you have a smaller limit it makes a huge difference. I run 4 plants and veg them until they take up the space. 5 weeks is about right from seed. That is after topping and some training and such. Take the larf out and all of those tops make for easier trimming and less chance of bud rot because they are not as thick.
But that is my opinion based on my experience. If I ran a SOG i might think different. With a scrog you veg until you have a canopy and time be damnd but really its only a couple more weeks to fill it out.

I would have to agree longer veg with a couple of toppings and some LST the grow I have going right now I topped but didn’t do much LST (pure laziness) and kinda missed a step on my dumbass part and I am noticing a difference my stems are flimsy as hell and buds aren’t as big as my last grow my last grow I got 24 jars this one I might get 10-15 and 15 is if they swell up nicely...... But my tent is still full just not the way I wanted as far as yield goes ..... My next grow though I’m gonna be more precise with it and am going to train the crap out of them and make sure I get some fat buds

If you are on a perpetual, you have at least 9 weeks of veg to play with. If you decide to keep mothers you can then choose to run less veg time for the next flip cycle, so sog becomes an option. If mothers/sog is not your thing and rely on cuttings of previously flipped generation you have no real choice but to go with the full perpetual veg time, run less plants and top, top, top to keep them in check. 10+ week flower strains this veg duration is harder in coco/hydro where growth is incredibly fast. In that situation you may choose to use seeds in order to reduce the 12 week veg down and save extreme pruning. If you are keeping a certain cutting going then you obviously have little option but extreme topping. Nothing really wrong with it on a yield perspective, it's just wasted growth>light for the privilege of keeping a pheno etc. With that said, the cost of seeds would add up too.

Plant count also effects choice. 4 weeks of hydro veg and say 4 plants in a 4x4 as an example. You could alternatively run one single plant in hydro and it may take up to 8 weeks to fill in the area while training. Hand watered coco may take 6 / 10 in the same situation. If you are using dripers in coco, that would reduce veg time closer to hydro.

The more veg time/plant count you can get out of your style/time frame the better as it's more roots, thicker stems, win.

In a 4x4, Soil can easily sustain 4 plant 10 week veg time if you top enough and properly.

Hand watered coco can sustain 8 weeks as above.

Automated hydro/coco is probably closer to 5/6 weeks.

Sog I believe is around 2 weeks veg times?.

Tolerance should be a large consideration. Sog has flashy yields vs veg time but added turn a rounds, scrub downs and endless cutting cycles. I truly like the idea of sog but would detest doing it. But that's me, you may hate long veg.

I used to think that since longer veg time makes for bigger plants then that equates to a bigger yield but this is not necessarily true; well not indoors anyway. I've switched over to doing more SOG style grows recently and find that yield has a lot to do with wattage.
It's possible to overveg your plants and I realize this is what I've been doing for years. Electric lighting can only reach so far. The idea is to fill your available grow space with as much densely packed plant material as possible; it doesn't matter if you've got 2 plants that have been vegging for months or 8 plants you flipped 4 weeks from seedling stage. You can still end up with the same yield. You can grow a 12" plant that has the same size cola buds as a 3 footer. Maybe there are not as many of them but the cola buds are comparably the same size.
Plant structure is the other factor governing yield besides wattage. A lotta noobs overlook their lighting in early veg which results in lanky ass plants later on. A T5,T8, or 400w MH work best IMO. A short flat plant with several colas and tight nodal branching will yield a lot more than a tall stretchy plant will a single top. Vegging longer doesn't make bigger yields if theres too much space in between branches. Topping in an of itself doesn't make more buds either unless the branches develop tight nodal areas where all the pistils grow together and eventually become one mass.

This is true but also depends on strain wouldn’t u think??? Also 8 plants is a lot more work IMO and more soil Nutrients and so on, Me personally I would rather train 2 or 3 plants and creat a manifold than to have 8 3 gal pots IMO....

Pick a less work style of grow then, some hydro guys barely need to visit there setup.

Scrog and long veg times are least efficient since the first grower discovered how to make a sog.
