That'll be my birthday present sorted then! Thanks for the update
i get what your saying - but having no meter to take meaningful measurements with - Im not fussed what metric is used here as it is bright enough in there to give seedlings a hard time and it has performed well flowering in a closed tent. It's not an insistence on using watts per sqft on my part here, simply that its as good as any other when I dont have the means of measuring light output accurately. All I'm driving at is that 30-ish watts per sqft of TCI strips works well (for me) in a small tent.Watts per sq ft doesnt mean much. Without par measurements
I don't understand why people still insist on using watt/sq ft. It's an almost meaningless number at this point. LEDs are anywhere from 75lumens/watt for the cheapo units to over 200+/watt for the upper end samsungs. Too large a range to make even a rough calculation.
I had 8 strips in a closed 2'x2.5' and was seeing 700-1000 ppfd depending on height, so 10 strips is probably close to right on the money for a closed 2x3 ish tent.
Points are moot now anyhow it seems... fella doesn't seem to be getting any more strips.
Not trying to be argumentative. .. but you quoted something like 30w/sq ft, correct?i get what your saying - but having no meter to take meaningful measurements with - Im not fussed what metric is used here as it is bright enough in there to give seedlings a hard time and it has performed well flowering in a closed tent. As mentioned by @SonsOfAvery we're all talking about a particular spec product here so the comparison with a 400w blurple claiming double the wattage is kind of irrelevant no?
If the grow space wasnt enclosed then it would be a different ball game and I would go as far as to recommend a different product altogether or at least seriously re-think how I would arrange strips like these.
Btw if you have a grow log please pay the link always interested to see how grows with these lights are progressing.i get what your saying - but having no meter to take meaningful measurements with - Im not fussed what metric is used here as it is bright enough in there to give seedlings a hard time and it has performed well flowering in a closed tent. Pic?I have 12 of these strips running in a tent with a 15sqft coverage, and the plants are doing great, using a mix of 3000k & 4000k.
With 48 strips you'll definitely be creating a lot of heat however.
Always good when things start with I'm not trying to be argumentative... butNot trying to be argumentative. .. but you quoted something like 30w/sq ft, correct?
You've admitted that you don't have any way of telling what ppfd you're getting,
and you have no way of measuring lumens so where did the notion that 30w/sq ft would be good for flower come from without some ppfd #s
I dont keep grow logs but I chuck the odd pic up during flowering. I'll try and remember to chuck a couple in here when I get to that point this runBtw if you have a grow log please pay the link always interested to see how grows with these lights are progressing.
You can get more for your wattage with LED, but if cost (either long-term or short-term) doesn't matter, and you can set it up in any way that suits you, I'd say it makes no difference. Either will grow great weed.Lets say cost doesn't matter, open warehouse, only quality matters, electric use is secondary concern. HPS or LED?
I'll post a pic over the weekend when I have a bit more free time on the evenings, my lights are on overnight now while I'm flowering.Pic?
I'm astounded and excited, maybe don't need as many as I thought! Less money!
Way too complicated.. KISS:
Even KISS-er: The Minimalist. (AKA, The Lazy) Two half-sized jelly roll pans with 5 3000K TCI strips, mounted with thermal tape, hung by 1/2"x4" eye bolts, hanger straps with drivers zip-tied, Wago connectors (still exposed, but hey, I'm the only one who's supposed to see them) and ground connected to the pan. 2'x2'x6' tent, one Blue Magoo BX2 plant. (Started with three, but two of them went hermie on me after I stressed the shit out of them by too heavy defoliating and adding too much light at the same time.) Max temperatures are ~120F on the drivers and 125F-130F on the lights. I may add a fan or two later, we'll see. The jelly-roll pans were an idea I stole from a guy on one of the other forums (THC farmer, I think), Baudelaire, who sells kits with Samsung strips.Way too complicated.. KISS:
Six 3000K Samsung F strips @ 150 W. Multiply times 4 for a 4x4 or 5x5 space.

Any pics of the underside? Let's see those strips!View attachment 4170850 View attachment 4170851

I'd like to add some UVB to this, probably just some reptile lights or something comparable. I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions? (Size/wattage, especially--thanks.)
Thank you for all the who posted in this thread, without your input I would not have this great light for $120...
