Grow big or go home

I’m thinking of running around 3 1000watt bulbs out of my garage very soon. As long as I’m smart with smell privacy safety all that think I’ll be ok as far as raising suspicion? Or am I crazy

Just do yourself a favor and be sure that your garage is properly wired to handle the kind of wattage you're going to be running. There's 3000w just with the lights, and add to that the fans you'll need running at all times. Also, three 1000w bulbs are going to generate some serious heat, so you'll probably need to be running a/c in there to keep temperatures under control.

Assuming you have all that figured out, a grow big enough to warrant three 1000w lights will stink. Invest in some good filtration or people are going to smell it.

Good luck.

The other question is,

"Does the police or anyone regularly fly around in helicopters" as their FLIR will see a VERY nice hot patch which will have them interested.

And, depending on your utility company, a sudden increase in use at a rate in excess of 3kw per hour may get them suspicious, not so much about you growing but running a business whilst paying "domestic" tariffs.

I know both of these have happened in the UK, and since I don't have a clue about where you are then I have no idea what sort of policies they have at your neck of the woods.

And, as has been said by Capt. Trips, make sure your wiring can handle it. At 230v you will need to be looking at a power supply that can handle at least 20A for safety reasons, always have an excess, never load things to the maximum the breaker says, if it's only a 15A supply then you WILL need to upgrade. On 110v you'll need at least a 40-45A supply as the lamps themselves will be pulling 27A, not including ballasts, and obviously not including extractor fans, airco, and so on. You can always make excuses as to why you need such an upgrade, say your starting to teach yourself machine shop stuff like metal munching or welding and nobody will be any the wiser.

Also, as El Capitano mentions above, if your garage door doesn't "seal", you will likely have issues with smell "leaking" as if you are running that level of lighting you're not doing one or two plants and that is going to be a lot of pong. You MUST ensure that doors, windows, and so on are sealed, if it's a wooden garage then you'll need to check over the whole damned thing for leaks or build a suitable tent inside. Heat will be an issue, so you will need some serious cooling and extraction, and that will have to be noiseless or your neighbours will be wondering why there's the sound of a turbine engine whining coming from your garage.

Plenty ways this can go south, so please remember the most important thing called the "Six P's"

Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance

Get everything down on paper, get advice from your local grow shop (if you have one) or list some serious details regarding the size of the garage, the construction of the garage, your ideas, etc, here and you can be sure people here will give you the absolute best advice you can have.

This sounds like you're well and truly trying to win the 100m against Usain Bolt before you can walk, you're biting off WAY more than you can chew. By my reckoning this will get VERY expensive VERY quickly so be aware of that. You can't just throw 3Kw of lighting in and hope for the best, you're going to be doing what many would call a "commercial" grow and, depending on where you are, one little mistake could mean you spend some time being VERY careful about how you pick up the soap.

Don't just "do". Think it through, plan properly and execute the plan to the letter irrespective of the cost as shortcuts will be highly likely to you losing everything, whether that is by your garage going on fire or someone finding out what you are doing.

Or scale back a bit, or use LED instead of HID lamps as that will negate some of the heat and power consumption issues.

Unless you're in a state where it's legal to grow I wouldn't be doing it. How much weed do you need? A 4x4 tent and a 600 watt HPS should give you more weed than you could smoke and have a very small footprint.

I've thought about expanding my grow not by number of plants but by number of lights. I could run four 1000 watt HPS with one plant under each and grow monsters and be legal. Then I think do I need to bother when my 4x4 tent with a 600 watt in the garage is providing me with more weed than I can smoke? Depending on where you live the difference between three or four plants in a 4x4 tent with one light vs 20 plants under three lights could be five or more years in the slammer. Don't get fast and lose with your future. Grow a couple plants and be happy.
Don't be crazy.

Depends where your from. A few thousand watts is more than personal use. If it's illegal telling someone like a best friend or girlfriend could fuck your life up for a few years. You could also make a few bucks, but the risk is real. You could lose your freedom and possibly everything you own. Your situation will dictate if the risk is worth it.
If it's legal it's probably not worth the time. You can read a dozen threads a day here of growers who thought they wanted it legalized, now they realize there's no money to be made without the risk of a state funded vacation. Can't have your cake and eat it too.

Thanks for all the love guys. Appreciate all the feedback. I’m in NJ laws are changing and I’ve done mutltipe grows in 4x4 and 6x6 . Fortunately for me there is still a market veryyyy easily for me to move a little something your absolutely right I am being greedy but I love this green stuff. I need to take some risk to change my life. I was super stoned and should have been specific in my first post lol. I have a detached garage to take advantage of and what i planned on doing was of being able to yield around 2lbs a month with a perpetual grow. Instead of going the tent route I can easily build a room in there. I’m thinking of around 12x6 room so I give myself enough room to operate. I’m just thinking if I should veg in a tent and use the room strictly for flowering or being able to have such a large room 12x6 I should section off an area to veg in also. Then if I wanted use a tent for mother’s and clones. If I’m running 1400-1600 in flower and around 6-800 in veg I think it’s 100% feasible to reach 2lbs or so a month.
