Scrog frame question

Hey RIU

I'm building a custom mini grow box which I'll be installing a scrog screen. I've not done this before, although I've got several grows under my belt, and I'm wondering if the plants put any upward pressure on the screen itself?

I've looked all over the internet and it seems some make the frame out of PVC, which I also understand is a bit toxic, so I'm going to create my frame out of wood. I was considering attaching it to the 2 x 2 vertical frame without legs but I don't want to constantly drill into the vertical frame to mount the scrog frame.

If there isn't much vertical, or any, pressure on the screen then I'll just put legs on it and it can just sit there. I've attached a pic of the box frame just for a visual.

Any thoughts?

If you are going to be actually tying the branches to the screen then you should allow for upward growth from the plants. I just use some sheep fencing for my screens and attach them loosely to supports with baling wire or suspend from the ceiling so the screen can "float". No frame at all.

You could do something similar with your setup with some hooks in each corner of the box's frame and wire or chains to hold the screen up.

This is one I did for a DWC ScroG.

Then one that is attached at the back to the vertical screen and I'll support the front with a chain hanging from a hook in the ceiling if needed.

I just dont like wood in high moisture areas.
That said i have used wood before .

Pvc is nice because its light weight

And easily modified and no splinters from accidentally sliding your hand on it :)

Also if you get creative you can make a self standing, stackable scrog net that you can keep stackigh levels as the plants grow :)

Plus as much as i build systems and hoop houses i have tons lol

Ive had plants want to break through the net cause it was secured to the wall lol.

They would have just picked my screen up

They had some pressure on it :)

Using PVC to make a scrog setup is so simple and inexpensive. Just make a square using pipes and use 3 way PVC connectors to make 4 PCV pipe stands, If you need to lower or raise it for any reason, just cut 4 more pieces of PCV pipe for $2.00. No glue necessary. The only work is attaching whatever screen you want to the PVC square you constructed with glue free fittings.

Oh, i know all about pvc bud thanks though.

I didnt mention glue at all?

Pvc is only limited by imagination :)

Heres a real crappy example of a set up
Please excuse the mess it was just a quick and dirty set up.

Much more elaborate scrogs can be made with pvc.

Yeah I've got some ready to go from my old grow box and you're right, it is so easy to work with.
