Single cola trimming

Can anyone tell me if I cut off side branches but leave the fan leaf on the main stem, will a bud still form at that node?

To me buds just randomly appear I can never see where they actually come from, is the side branch needed for the bud to form on that node?

I know that but if I was growing a single cola plant

Say I want a 1 meter long single cola no branching.

Every node produces 2 side branches and 2 fan leaves.

If I remove every single side branch up the main stem and leave the fan leaves would buds still form on the main stem?

No buds will form where you removed the side branches, but the buds will form above that...keeping the fans is a good idea.

Every node on the main stem that fan leaves grow will also produce a secondary stem-that's where buds form.

So how do some people get a meter long colas?

If I veg my sog clones long enough to get some decent hieght they start side branching.

I would of thought the bud grows from the node site even if the nodes branch is removed?

Up the stem each leaf is paired with a node. Those nodes will sprout into branches and more node+leaf pairs if the plant is in veg, or, develop into buds if the plant is in flower.
Removing those sites that would become branches, is removing the very thing that would become buds.
Maybe non-branching is in the genes, and some strains are good for growing meter long colas? I don't know where colas like that come from

Alright I'll try and cram my colas close together in veg so little light gets to side branches, like they do with pine forestation.

Hopefully that's will encourage tall colas then I'll move them to flower room after stretch where light can penetrate down

If you aren't removing the branches entirely but just most of them, leaving it short with the first 2 nodes intact, yep those nodes you've left will become buds.
.... or two branches, depending if you are still vegging
