How much distance would you keep between a 600 watt HPS bulb and the top of the plant?

I recently bought a 315w CMh and the salesman told me to keep it about 18 inches away from the plant, which seems high, but I have confirmed that 16 to 20 inches is normal for LEC

I keep my 600 watt HPS about 10 inches away, which he thought that was too close....what's your opinion?

cheers

How have you and the misses been doing there MMG.
Hey bud. What’s up?

We are ok. Unfortunately Mrs. MMG’s father is sick with bad cancer. She went to Colorado last month to see him. At least he is back home and not still in the hospital.

Has your crowded busy life calmed down?

Yes and No, but life goes on. Sorry to hear about Ms. MMG's father, I know the feeling. Lost my father to cancer in 03.

thanks Vostok....I have that chart and that's why I felt 10 to 12 inches would be safe, as 8 inches is really pushing your luck

my grow space is in a standard bathtub, about 5 X 3.5 feet, with an open hood and reasonable air circulation, thus heat is not a big issue in the winter months

Bend that top cola over it is the tallest in the room. Aim for an even flat canopy. Then you can drop you lights. Watch the tips of the plant. They will burn first. Then lift the lights up a few inches and that is your sweet spot.
