brothers and sisters ... a poll

My wife and I are considering having a second child. The main consideration is to give our daughter a sibling, friend and playmate.

My wife is best friends with her sister! That's her side.
My sister and I were very close until I quit believing in invisible, imaginary gods.

My questions are:

To only children: Do you wish you had a sibling? Or do you think you’re happier without?

To children with siblings: Do you wish you were an only child? Or are you definitely happier with your siblings?

I love having siblings...I have a twin and 2 other brothers. Plus some1 is always there if you need them.

ok this thread is a little bit silly, i'm not knocking what your doing or your intentions but:

I was an only child it didnt really bother me but at times i felt like a brother would have been cool.

For people that are not an only child, they would think that having a sibling was good but sometimes they would have wished they didnt have one, either that or they just didnt like them full stop.

So this poll will only tell you the ratio of ppl with siblings to ppl without

First thing you got to see is, how old is your first child, if there is going to be a sizeable age gap say 6 years, then the older one would always think the young one was tagging along, and the younger would always want to do everything the older one is doing.

Siblings will be as close as you make them to be,

e.g.

Two kids fairly close together, the young one has a temper as this gets them what they want, the older one always has to give in to the younger one to keep them quiet, this is going to push them apart.

With my kids I always try to go on fairness and explain it to them, there is no favourites. I also explain to the regularly the importance of looking out for each other.

What i'm basically saying is, that the child has to be right for you and your partner more than anyone else, if you and your partner would like to extend your family then go for it, its up to you how your older child will take it.

that's what i'm after.

but i'm also hoping to hear if only children out there “desperately wanted a sibling their whole lives”, or something.

if my wife and i are 50/50 on this and want a decision breaker, we would take our child's wants into consideration.
