Buds quality LEDs VS HPS

stephen has some kind of optics mounted on his new light i think
I've heard talk on the DIY boards on here of talk of mounting them in old 250w CFL batwing reflectors, but no one ever posted pics to back up their idea. Rapid led I believe sells a lens that fits over the entire qb type boards I do believe.

Wow, 25 plants in a 4X4? I used to do 9 in my 5X5 and it was crowded.
I'm beginning to think LED is best suited for enclosed spaces with very reflective surfaces, like tents. Especially with quantum boards, since you can't really put a reflector on them like COBS.
Or can you?
Hmm...
Has anyone converted an old adjust-a-wing reflector to LED using a couple of quantum boards? Just mount the driver on top.
Yeah that's where I started killing it with yields. Short veg 2.5-3 weeks only 1 gallon pots of coco/perlite nectar for the gods organic nutrientsIMG_20171115_014635.jpg IMG_20171102_000406.jpg IMG_20171102_000241.jpg

How do you deal with runoff?
If it's not bad I just let it evap off over a few hours, I keep lots of air movement above n below canopy with that many plants, but bad runoff I just use my shopvac that's in my room for cleaning my messes up, just wand through the maze

You run coco w/no runoff? How often do you feed them?
Feed them every day, organic nectar for the gods, Greek feeding schedule.
No I never said I don't run off, said if it's just a little I let the air evap it away but if I have big puddles then just simple quick wet vac

LED cob system I built, pulling 2lbs of quality like this out of only 500w in a 4x4. Though I stack them in at 25 per 4x4, short 3 week veg.
LED done right is a winner in my book. Used to get 1.5 lb avg on a good run of a 1000w hps de.
Yields I'm getting little over 8oz more for half the watts...win win lol
Quality is better in looks and aroma, more crystals. Dept, slight increase in potency, probably all related to not being cooked by the heat that comes off a 1000w hps these are random shots from week 3-6 of flower. These were the same strains and mom's that I had under the HPS system before I built my lights a year ago.View attachment 4048184 View attachment 4048185 View attachment 4048186 View attachment 4048187 View attachment 4048188 View attachment 4048189 View attachment 4048193 View attachment 4048197 View attachment 4048200 View attachment 4048202

Nice! Do you have 16 cobs hanging in that 4x4?

I have been reading a lot of stuff the cob company guys are posting and I think the results require a lot of cobs. Like one every square foot run at very high efficiency seems to be best.

Someone please correct me if there is a better way.

Same reason I like 2 600's instead of 1 1000. 3 400's might even work better. More light from more sources from more angles.

I still would keep my plants short inside using overhead lighting. I try to maximize the light I use not stretch its capabilities.

I was just going to sandwich in the 315 but I keep thinking I want a new toy.

Two 600w HPS rigs can cover a lot of space. Perfect for an 8X4. I've seen ballasts that support two 600s, which seems like it would be fairly efficient.

HPS are so good that hortilux decided to launch a LED light^^
a local grow shop owner told me that cannabis growers support his shop. cannabis grower are the only ones who think HPS lights are great stand alone grow lights. LED makers target the cannabis growers market and it sounds like hortilux is just trying to cash in on this trend.cannabis is a very high value crop and commercial growers are not the best educated people. poor education and a lot of cash after harvest makes these growers an attractive market for high priced, high tech toys.growers of other crops have very tight margins and need to use the most cost effective way of growing.and most greenhouses and garden centers have people trained in horticulture on their payroll.in my state it looks like large growers backed by wall street investors will take over the legal market and drive small growers out of business unless they can find a place in the market and that will require better quality than the large factory farms deliver.

A local expert once told me how you can tell real gardeners from people who grow weed -- real gardeners have a budget.

Different spectrums are used for different crops. Full sunlight spectrums with a lot of blue are better for leafy greens.

A good red peak like an hps bulb has happens to be what works well for our buds. Add a little extra blue for plant health and a little more compactness and you got a Hortilux super hps style bulb that works better.

Seems the cobs have gone down in temp like 3000k is popular now. For cannabis I mean.
