So hey guys I have a question, I was talking to a friend about how big I can expect my plants to get, and I was wondering how all of you control the size of what your plant grows too, because I know some of you told me that my plant that I have right now I like grow too tall, plus if I can figure this out I can better fit a grow room, thank you all

Plan on your plants at least tripling in size when you flip to flower. If you want to control the height, the best option is a scrog, then you just keep training the plant to stay under the net.

Brighter, more intense lighting will keep the plants shorter and stouter and stronger. Higher temperatures towards the blue spectrum also help keep them shorter and stronger.

Genetics too.but I love the scrog.great tool.I like 2 layers too to train n plants.also opinion but scrog you get better yeild from each plant on average.dgreat for tall outdoor strains that you grow indoors.all my opinion.hope it makes you think.good luck.

Like I said as I don't personally know you or your grow or your skillz w bud.everything is a factor.add one more light and some if not all the girls will act funny.so I've grown outside fine.this is my first real start indoors.so now I'm father natur we.know what I mean.growing indoors your a nursery school teacher.your teaching all you kids the rules and how stuffs done and they teach you what they like/don't like and you learn forevermore.now after you've read a bunch as your growing you'll have ideas of different things to try.also you've got a sounding board here but honestly go on net a read your ass off.I read books on hydro and growing different fruits etc.you never know.and technology is advancing so fast you buy leds and their outdated in 6 mths.but I just worry about and watch my girls and train etc.it's a combination of everything.mainly your will/effort/love and skillz/learned action that will push you towards greatness.keep on growin my friend.best of luck.

Container size is huge. I flower in 1 gal or 3 gals and they get pretty big even in those. If you're planning on vegging awhile I wouldn't use the 1 gal however.

You can keep topping the plant as well. When I used to have size constraints I would chop them bitches in half about a week before flowering. Plan on your plant at least doubling in size in flower as well.

Supercropping has worked well for me also when a plant is getting a little too big later in veg. They always bounce back despite the horrifying nature of bending your plant over.

I have not tried this but negative light differential keeps plants shorter. Taught in Greenhouse production guides.

If the temp at night is the same or higher than the day the plants supposedly won't get as tall.

Combined with more blue light and also adequate potassium (also promotes thick shorter branching) plants should grow more compact.

My Hortilux blue and 315 LEC grow plants more compact than my super hps.

But they also reduced yield that way.

I bend all my flowers by week 2 and tie them down to the pot to promote branching. This gives me half size but wider bushier plants.

I keep my flowering plants to 30" max above the pots.

I think they take the scroging pretty well.takes a week or so but they blow up 1-2 weeks after scrog training.then it's just train to scrog for a bit then flower stretch like crazy...do you flush plants 10 days or so before harvest?how's cured nugz quality.ttys.#growyourown

Yes but bro even though you bend them to keep low they always grow to the light.so when you scrog you top plant to get more colas/tops and as you scrog idea is to have a bud grow up out ok f each square.look up scrotum ng on riu and when you see production you'll definitely be interested.but everyone hits limitations.space-money for equip-time to care for plants.like I say always learning and no grow is a waste.you learn best trying stuff you read/learn...always moderation and super watchful after any changes.also log books of everything.I take this very seriously.ty

So right now I have like a 1 gallon planter that my plans in, a lot of the responses that I'm getting are great the only issue that I'm having right now is that I'm not completely up-to-date with terms that everyone is using because this is my first time. Can you maybe elaborate on what super cropping is, and also how do you go about getting your plant in half because I think I might actually have to do that with mine due to her size and I'm still expecting her to double if not triple in size since I just now started flowering

You just started flowering and your girl in veg is big for your space?you know the average I see stated is 3x the size in flower.i,e your girls are going to get 3x bigger.so when there little/ 2/3rds way thru to at flower I personally will use scrog method.netting with squares that you feed the plant thru to goal of having a big cola/bud reaching for the light out of each 4in square..looks and works great.also I try to look at seed breeders comment to see how big they grow.what I've seen and heard there's lots of ways to stunt growth but why would you purposely hurt your girls and if you stunt them anyway you need to make sure you can get her healthy/vibrant again so obviously be careful.supercrop is just what it sounds like.lolli-pop the tree fairly well and cut out alot of vegetation(not bud sites and know what your doing.you need to TRAIN your girls young an d thru life to go where you want them.my first scrog was a mess.lol.but worked.honestly your going to learn as you go.I don't think you expected medical grade shit on your first grow?you'll get there.I think 2 yrs of crops and you'll be getting into a grove and blowin shit up.don't fret my friend soon you'll see your first crop.keep learning.try shit you think will work for you.always do changes in moderation as to much new/stressful things tried will definitely stress plants.can cause issues.I like happy/healthy/trained girls as I have much better luck when three things are followed.

SCROG w/ LST is what I use, along with one topping at about week 1 or 2. Bending the top of the plant not only controls height, but exposes side growth. The highest portion of the plant receives hormones that accelerate growth. You can control what part of the plant grows by controlling the height of various parts.

I just tied this top off this morning. I used a twisty-tie to keep it in place, and allow the top room to bend toward the light. All that side growth is now getting light, and more hormones. Side growth is small and scraggly now because it wasn't getting any light due to the top's fan leaves. The 2nd picture shows a top I tied off yesterday. The side growth now looks vigorous, and the top is still good looking, but is not growing as fast.

Do you flower with the Hortilux blue. I've been curious about doing s test with blue mh vs red or full spectrum HPS. More curious about smells then size

I have and have decided it makes plants too loose and leafy. The cmh 3100 does a better job with buds.

But it's too weak and low wattage too so I am using only super hps for the last 6 months or so and my quality is up. Potency, smells and taste.

I would re build with 2 600' hps and 1 315 cmh. 2 to 1 hps to mh would be great for flowering also in my opinion.

I think if there was really a conversion the 315 is equal to about 450 watts of hps but does not cover more area.

I also feel 1000 watt hps in a 4x4 would be a bit much to keep up with but is doable. I have done 24 oz of high quality nugs with a 600 in that space.

And only uv has been shown to increase potency.
Flavor and smell is increased with less heat. I just increase the distance to the lamps during ripening to preserve terpenes.

I top mine carelessly with wanton abandon multiple times even while in veg until I have room in the flower room to finish it.
I top it short, tall, fat skinny, whatever I want. My plant doubles in size while in flower and knowing this I can accurately adjust final sizes. a vegging plant can be topped weekly for 9 years before you flower it if desired.

Thanks for the tips I'll keep that in mind, I already have 1k bulbs I might run those through the beginning to mid flower then switch to a 4-600 to cut down heat and light burn

I wouldn't switch out the 1000 if you got it working well.

Just plan to back it away 4-6" the last week or two.
