Setting up a DWC. Question.

Wanting to set up my storage containers for hydroponics, they are the thinner Rubbermaid storage container 20Gallon.

I have placed a hole in the bottom of it to place a pvc valve on the end of it for quicker draining&filling ideally. However everything I've found for glue hasn't been holding even after 3-7 days of cure time. where if the valve twisted not that I want to twist it or even allow it to twist, Along with the edges of it starting to peel back and act as glue flaps and then there would be a small dripping from the bottom of the container.

So is there a thing that can hold the pvc valve directly in place and and also create a 100% seal not leak, and then I can use for DWC?

Or Have I Destroyed My Storage Container?

How do you seal your PVC to your buckets for RDWC?

They sell pvc bulkhead with union to do what you want to do. Just buy the size you need for the size pvc you are using. They make them in glue in and threaded.
X2 on the upgrade to the 27G totes with the yellow checkered lids. They are super heavy duty and allow easy installation of bulkheads due to flat surfaces on the ends & they only run about $12.

Thanks.

This isn't to build a RDWC, I just wanted to put a drainage thing in the bottom of the Rez to make water changing alittle quicker.
The holes are about 19mm I can put a 3/4" pvc in it if I wanted

But also I wanted to see how everyone puts these things together out of interest

I wasnt showing it for the RDWC lol, but to show how I have a drain hose connected to a watertight bulkhead exactly how you are talking about.
Nothing moves or twists. Your purpose is exactly what these are made for. Theres a gasket for the inside and for the outside.

So if I got these "lifeguard aquatic bulk head" it comes with gasket...maybe getting an extra gasket for the other side of the "res wall" just to make sure I do this correctly so I don't just spend money on this and end up not working.

So just for safe measure, gasket for each side of wall, tighten and were good?

The gasket will create the seal and I will then not need to worry about leaking or any of the sorts?

You got it. And as mentioned....ditch the tupperware and get the totes we mentioned. You dont want 20 gal of res water on your floor when the side bows and cracks.

You do not need a gasket on both sides! Only the male side, to keep water from leaking through the threads. Some people like to put them on both sides, but it's really only the male side that matters. That's why bulkheads come with a single gasket.

You don't need anything more than the bulkhead pictured. Don't waste your money on extra gaskets you don't need! Gasket on the male side and your good.

BTW, it doesn't matter if the male side is on the inside or outside of the tote. The only thing that matters is that the gasket is on the male side.

Nice find! I didnt know they came in those sizes. Still not sure if I'd trust anything larger than 3/4" considering the wall of the hole (and grommet) is still only so thick.

I'm going to go from my diy bulkheads w/aquarium-safe silicone, to Uniseals. Because I'm using 2 x totes rather than 4 x buckets, buying Uniseals got more affordable.

Here's a five-pack for less then $20, which is all I would need for my setup:. 2" Uniseals
