Another mass shooting.

So that's it then, lie on the form and get your gun? No other checks are made? The state knew something about him, otherwise his concealed carry permit would have gone through. Is there no effort made to validate these submissions?
Yeah, that approach works really well on underage kids looking at porn sites. If they click the button saying they are over 18, society is powerless to stop them. If criminals are willing to lie in order to break the law we have no recourse. This is why banks keep all the cash in a big pile in the parking lot with a note saying "don't steal this". It works really well.

So what's your answer? More gun laws?

It was actually the military's fault...

They never reported his domestic violence charge to the NICS.

You think we have too many? Really? Background checks are too much to ask?

Be nice to put some money into mental health again too. Easily modified automatic weapons and crazy people =84 dead in the last 35 days. And those were just the high profile cases.
Who the fuck even knows what these people want anymore? They are one step away from embracing Bannonism.

Why then did he not get his concealed carry permit from Texas? Being refused a concealed carry permit from Texan authorities really takes some doing. I'm wondering why he was denied that permit and if it might have been cause for rejecting a gun sale too.

Ok. Follow it back to the failure and prosecute them. Fix the system.

Aren't most laws on the honor system? So we ban assault weapons. Then what? Use the honor system for people to turn them in?
Wow, I feel so much safer. Thanks. I am sure the families of the dead feel better too.
I'm sure it won't make them feel better.

Doesn't change the guy broke the law to get the gun and there was a failure in the system.

This guy was a clear danger and nothing was done.

I'm just going on what I've read/heard, not hugely relevant to me because my guns are still locked up and not killing people ;)

Yes, among other things like a modern national gun registry.

I'm not saying these aren't good ideas. Yet poor enforcement and administration of existing gun laws are part of the reason the Texas church shooting happened- and let's not forget the Las Vegas shooter and his arsenal was completely legal.

I think the increasingly prevalent nature of these incidents is saying something about the pressure we've put such a large part of our society under. People feel hopeless so they lash out. We've had assault rifles since WWII, so why are these attacks getting so bad now?

I don't have any answers, but I have the strong feeling that gun laws by themselves are missing a big part of the cause.

Several times a year now we have another incident.

They have done absolutely nothing.

Anything would be an improvement, just for the mental uplift.

The NRA is the most violent lobby in the US. It never bothers them to see blood. It's never their responsibility.

What is the actual use of an assalt rifle?
My daughter actually won one at a gun raffle, couldn't afford the $100 a minute to shoot it. Traded it for a hand gun.

No, man- if a 'mass shooting' is defined as four people getting shot in the same incident, they're happening on a DAILY BASIS. That's well beyond 'incedental' and on to 'constant'.

http://www.abc15.com/news/national/mass-shootings-in-the-u-s-over-270-mass-shootings-have-occurred-in-2017_

I agree that the NRA has gone far beyond its original mandate.

Yes. Just one, actually: UNIVERSAL BACKGROUND CHECKS.

All medical professions, all law enforcement, all branches of government, all jurisdictions send all information on criminals to a central location (the FBI already has one set up in fact). ALL GUN SALES, BOTH PUBLIC AND PRIVATE, require paperwork (transfer of ownership) as well as a background check.

That alone would cut gun violence in half within 10 years with relative ease.
