It's got a magnet on the back so I just put it on the side of a light. Rookie mistake? Where's the best spot for it?

yes horrible spot it should be at the canopy level so near the top of your plants also make the fan inside your room blow between the light and plants or up into the lights. hanging your thermometer from a string is the easiest way to get it there

your getting heat from the light directly on the thermometer hang it like i said and see where your temps are i bet it comes down a decent amount just doing those two things change that part of your set up wait a hour and check temps again

Cool thanks. Added 1 additional intake earlier. Gonna hang the thermometer and see where I'm at and will definitely post up the results.

The fan CFM recommendations I've seen run anywhere from the actual room volume turned over every minute, while other sources say every three minutes. I agree you should first look at your fan setup. I wouldn't move the filter to down-stream, though.
You could run an air conditioner on the door. You don't need to exhaust them outside. Refrigerators, for example, don't. It would heat your outside room up, though.

You are right at the max of what that fan can do. Your grow area needs a minimum of 168 cfm. You fan is 190 cfm. The filter reduces that. Bends reduce it. Long runs reduce it.
If you can, exhaust outside. Exhausting into another room still raises ambient temp outside the grow area. The grow room then draws that warm air in and heats it again.
Have you noticed the room connected to the closet getting warmer? Set a thermometer in that room. Take note if the temp. Shut the lights down and wait a bit and check temps again. You would be surprised.
You could also figure a way to draw cold outside air in to help cool it.

Maybe reduce the 4" intake to a 3" and feed it through a floor vent or anywhere with fresher cooler air. You can use it as exhaust also. You gotta purge the heat it'll just build up if you don't. Sometimes just cycling lights to have shade periods can help heat issues.

good call on location of thermometer. Attached to light won't be accurate. Sunleaves makes a digi therm/hygrometer with a remote probe that you can twist-tie to a branch/ stalk in the canopy.
Your fan looks like a Vortex knockoff, so may be noisy, but should be able to push/pull plenty of pascal

Can you lower your ambient temps? its a bit warm. Your room is 67cuftand i dont see a problem with the fan, even with duct and bends and filter you should be getting at least 2x turnover. measure temps at canopy level, I have my temp probe on a straw and stick it in the pot closest to the center of the foot print. Air movement inside of the tent is important and you should have a good breeze going.

Seems like you pretty much figured things out, but FWIW...
I'm running a vivosun 4" 200CFM fan on my 3'x2'x8' grow space. It's on it's lowest setting and seems to pull enough air through to keep it cool.
I have a rectangular intake that is 11"x4" with a prefilter on it (so 44 sq inch, vs a 6" round intake that is 3"*3"*3.14~=28").
I only have approximately 240W of LED (CMX22 COB*2) running in that space and my temps stay 1-4 degrees above ambient.
I intake from one room and exhaust into another to ensure adequate mixing of exhaust air prior to being pulled back into the closet.
I also run my furnace fan on low 24/7, but that's for my house's carbon/hepa filter.... but it ensures the cold air draws are recirculating and balancing air temps in all rooms of the house....
Anyway... no probs with that little fan so long as your intake is big enough.
