So right now i have a 400 hps/mh fixture for my plants but i dont and cant get proper ventilation to remove the heat, is there anything i can do to reduce it? it gets to almost 40C in the box so i had to take them from the box so they are just growing on a dresser right now, most of the light i assume is being wasted.

A/c and/or fans for ventilation. That's about all you can do. If you run co2 you can get away with a bit higher temps but that adds a whole new set of things to do and get dialed in if you were to do that.

If I were you I would remake the box or do whatever you have to in order to get some ventilation from an inline fan in there.

You need to find a place to grow where there is proper ventilation because it is critical... whether it's for removing Heat or just getting fresh CO2 to your plants

get an exhaust fan and filter, that's the only way. You need to move some air in and out of that tent/box.
