dark period before harvest?

if its your first grow then just do the normal chop at just before lights on.

You need a personnel base line.

Ive read a bazillion threads on 48 hr darkness and there may be something to it, but there may not be. If there is its still not as crucial as the cure.

First grow first chop...views on 24 or 48 hr dark period b4 harvest?
I have tried both and honestly didn't like the what they looked like after 48 dark and 24 didn't seem to do any different to the standard method, IMO 48h dark just causes the plant unnecessary stress.

I just do as Lucky Luke above says and never had any problems, Just wait till the light goes off and unplug it so it doesn't come back on. wait the 12 hours until the light would normally come on and chop after that.
a good slow dry and cure is a must and will really improve the taste of the finish product by getting rid of the chlorophyll which makes it taste harsh so flavour improves greatly. 2 weeks is the min time i would cure before consuming.

some prick the stalk with pins, some pour boiling water over the roots, some bury fresh harvests in the dirt for months until it black molds and composts some before they use it. All of them swear it makes their marijuanas the best around.

I grow in a large tent so once the plants are down i use the same tent to dry in as this already has my carbon filter setup so no smells, I always dry at room temp and keep my circulation fan and extraction fan running at all times,
They will feel dry at 4 or 5 days but i will then leave them another day min. so you r looking at 6 to 8 days drying depending on ambient temps. Try and avoid drying it to quickly as this produces a horrible taste and very harsh bud.
don't look to much into temps and humidity too much just hang and dry at room temp and keep the air moving but indirectly.

Curing is done in 1.5L or 2L glass jars, these are opened daily for an hour for first week or 2 then opened a few time a week after that then once a week, You want a little moisture left in the buds but not too much or they will end up with rot/mold.
Better to be too dry than too moist when your just starting out but after a few goes you will get your own method of doing it all. practice.
It taste so much better with a Cure and i would say the min is 2 to 3 weeks to to rid of all that nasty Chlorophyll and make the buds taste sweat.

You will be able to smell the difference, if it smells like dry grass when you open the jars thats the chlorophyll leaching out of the buds, this will turn sweat smelling as time goes on. speak again soon mate i better get some work done lol.
