Do you think it's OK for politicians to earn money from groups/institutions/individuals their policies while governing benefitted? How can you be sure said politician didn't vote in a way that benefitted said group/institution/individual because they knew they would be compensated financially afterwards?

Take for instance Obama lobbying the EPA to relax regulations that benefit the Carlyle Group, then, after Obama finishes his term as president, the Carlyle Group pays him more than a million dollars for two speeches. To most people, that would seem like obvious corruption. Would Obama have lobbied the EPA had he not received financial compensation for it post presidency? Who knows? But his policy opinions while president certainly don't support the idea. He was pretty big on environmental protection, comparatively speaking. So why did he lobby the EPA to relax the environmental regulations that benefitted the Carlyle Group?

I mean, what would it take for you to accept government corruption? Would the politician in question literally have to be caught by authorities holding a brown burlap bag with a '$' sign on it like a cartoon? Does the money have to be transferred directly after the deal is made? Does someone have to be caught transferring money into an offshore account carrying their US passport, social security card, and state issued ID? I mean, you understand these people understand the consequences if they get caught, and they're in complete control of the laws governing their own actions, so they're extremely fluent in ways of defeating government corruption charges, right? You can plainly see it with people like James Inhofe and his denial of climate change, you look at his record and realize he takes massive amounts of money from the fossil fuel industry, it's pretty clear his votes in congress are not influenced by rational thought, but by campaign contributions. Same thing with healthcare, defense, education, etc. So how can it be that only the Republicans are corrupted by corporate influence?
