Dude is on a tight buget, think hes setup with a great couple options through cobkits! Yes, they are well worth the investment!Explain away the price difference to get a pair of COBs. They cost a little more upfront but will make the difference back in like 2-3 months. Less power from the wall, less heat meaning less fans etc, and blah blah.
It's true though.
A pair of COBs running at 100w will give more light than a 250w hps with little heat.
If you plan to upgrade in the future, just add more COBs.
I switched from a 400w hps to 6 cobs totaling 330w and the difference in growth/harvest is crazy.
Could easily flower under that in the 2x3 hes working with.
You can't go wrong with either of those...

10-20$ in angled aluminum will build you a frame. If youre only running 4 cobs, 3500 or 4000 will be your best bet. You will really only get benefit of mixed spectrum running many chips at a lower drive current. Think about it, half of your space will be lit at 1 temp and half the other. And color temp is mych different than with other light sources. The spectrum is more complete and those temps will give you peaks where you want them. If going citi, go with the 90 cri, has a higher red peak.
Pretty decent option. I have a panel of cree household bulbs, mix of 6 5,000°k and 4 2700°k all 8.5 watt 800 lumens except 2 of the 5s are i think 11 watt 1,500 lumens. The 800 lumen bulbs i get 4 packs for 5$ at the home depots. I like to cut the dome covers down to 3/4" and line the inside with aluminum tape to make a pseudo reflector. Theres a thread on ic mag where a guy tests a bunch of these bulbs in lux comparing them to w/wo dome and against cfls. The numbers with the domes removed are astounding. I dont think its as practical of an option for an all purpose light as cob or quantum board but i love mine as a veg light. Currently rebuilding mine, going to use both my cob rigs as flowering lights.
