How many of these COB are needed for a 4x4 space? I was under the impression that 6 would cover it and was just told I would need more than that. Like 12

you can do a 4x4 with as little as one 550W cob, or 4 150W cobs, or 9 70W cobs, or 16 40W cobs, or 25 25W cobs, or 36 15W cobs, etc etc

more cobs=more efficient and generally more uniform coverage

i like to use squares in squares (4,9,16) but thats jsut a preference. 12 works too you just space them differently in each direction.

9-16 prob best for a 4x4

I was just told that it depends on what kind you get. The vero I can run 6 of them and the crew would need 12

yes it depends on size of chip. i wouldnt recommend the same chip for a single 550W cob as i would for 25 cobs at 25W each. every manufacturer makes different size chips

dont even bother with cree, theres no justification to use them at their current price point when chips under $20 do the same thing

Theres a thread in the auto flower sectin where a guy has 4 cobs totaling 220w in a 4x4 and hes aiming for a lb from 4 autos. I'm running 6 @330w in a 2.5x5 closet and about to pull a lb from 3 autos.
I think a lot of people are running more light than necessary.

From timbergrowlights:

There are a few different ways of achieiving 600 watts with COBs passively cooled. You can run them at 50-100 watts each, depending upon the brand, and get fairly consistent results. To cover a larger area, I generally recommend the Very based lights because the Vero29 COBs are very efficient at higher wattages (100 watts/COB), meaning you need less materials to build the same light as a Cree, for instance, that would need 2x the amount of COBs (12 Cobs @ 50 watts each).

I find the Vero to be a better value when covering larger areas because the capital expenditure $/watt is much less

that also neglects to mention that veros are also better at 50W as well because they are cheaper than the crees

anybody buying crees for a new build in 2017 is misinformed and hanging on to outdated data. their current models excel in no areas

Do autos really produce that good of numbers ???? Got any pics ?

Jesus. Now I know I'm a noob
I'm a noob too. This is my 2nd grow. First go under 400w HPS I only got about 7 zips total from 4 plants. Discovered I'm not cut out for organic soil. The Cheese was my last soil grow. Coco from here on out. That's what the Amnesia are in.
I give all credit to the 6 individual COBs hanging in my closet. :bigjoint:
