i want to have my set up with my lights running 18/6 but to help cool down and vent the room i have to keep open the cabinet open so my fan can blow the heat out... the thing is that when my grow lights are off and the cab door ajar sometimes the hallway light enters the grow cab. i heard this causes hermi's so i dont want this... what if i just go 24 hours light... the plants are about 6 weeks old or even 22/2 the 2 hours darkness being around 4 am -6 am ... i am up really really late so MY lights are on till about 3 am.???

you don;t have to worry about light entering your grow room until you are on the 12/12 flowering cycle, then the dark cycle needs to be complete and uninterrupted or you could get hermies.

ok thanx that answered my question pretty much...

is there much of a differnce between 24/0, 22/2, or 18/6... what does the longer darkness hours do?? i also heard that 22/6 is good too... makes the plant think that a day is 28 hours and u still get the 6 hours darkness to rest and such then gets 22 hours of growing??? any thoughts

the only thing i;ve seen on light cycles is in the growfaq section under advanced techniques/improving yield and is for flowering, not vegging. nobody here seems to think it makes a big difference in vegging. some people run less than 24 to save money and some to reduce heat.

Plants don't need darkness during veg. They actually need all the light they can get. An extra 6 hours of light per day will be a drastic improvement as far as vegging time goes. The vegging phase will be shorter because the plants will grow faster. Also, during the veg phase, when the lights are off, the plant will stretch in a effort to find some light. They grow taller. You want them to be shorter and bushier. The main reason for an 18/6 light cycle is to save on electricity.
