The problem with owning guns while you are growing pot is that it greatly increase any jail time and what you can be charged with. I keep my 4 rifles locked in a cabinet and all the ammo is kept locked up in my office safe. Hoping to make it hard for the cops to claim I had the guns to protect my grow from home invaders. I've had them since the late 70s so it's not like I went out and bought guns to protect my grow. If someone kicks my door down in the middle of the night I don't have time to run to the safe for ammo and the key to the gun cabinet then load and aim a weapon. Would like to keep a .357 under my pillow but that's serious jail time if it is cops kicking in the door and not some crack-heads looking for an easy score. I'll have to hope that whoever it is isn't packing heat and I can take them out with the baseball bat I do keep under my pillow. Beside the bed actually but close enough. :)

I'd like to keep the shotgun loaded and handy for varmints trying to get at the wife's chickens at night but that might be misinterpreted if the cops come a knocking.

Bear spray sounds like a good idea. I should get me some of that. I don't hunt tho I've been meaning to get my license. Have to get my possession permit one of these days as my old FAC ran out 15 years ago. I got a lot more fishing tackle than gun stuff and until I moved to northern Alberta from the Fraser Valley in BC I'd be out fishing every chance I got. Filled my freezer with coho every fall. Now it's just pike and walleye so I don't even bother tho a big pike can fun on the fly rod. :)

I live in the boonies where my closest neighbour is a half mile away and got home invaded a year ago. His wife is still seeing a shrink to deal with the trauma.

Who wouldn't want to beat the crap out of some asshole that invaded your home. Even here in gun shy Canada you can blow away a home invader tho you better make sure he's all the way in the house when you do it. Blast some guy out in the yard trying to steal your quad or something and you'll be in a world of hurt with the law.
