My point was neither sides primary aim could have possibly been freedom, despite what they may have claimed.

If one side, the Confederates were fighting for the freedom to secede while still enslaving others and the Union alleged to be against that, but used conscripted soldiers to prevent the south from seceding.....

I considered that but then remembered it was Trump and he's too stupid to have a viable master plan. As you say though, WTF-fatigue is definitely a path towards normalization and may ultimately work in their favor, by design or otherwise.

His handlers are in charge and have been since last summer. The new right wing, aka Fascists, want to drive the conversation so hard most people will just tune out so they can get away with whatever they want.

Americans MUST meet this with the kind of activism not seen since the 1960s Civil Rights and anti-war movements. The alternative is yet another great crash, paid for by the same taxpayers who are watching their prosperity bring eroded- or being thrown out of their homes.
