Question about avoiding eating insects!

Hello,

I've always been interested in eating natural cannabis for medical reason (pain relief and depression, among other things) and I'm starting to learn things on how to grow my own outdoor plants, but I'm aware that plants usually have microscopic flies and other tiny creatures moving and living on top of the leaves. My question is when people eat cannabis, be it raw or heated (to activate), do they accept that it's apart of the deal to not care about such things and just tuck-in? I first thought that after harvest I could rinse the leaves like I do with fruit and vegetables before use, but someone said that removes the beneficial resin on the surface.

So what do you think regarding the tiny creepy crawlies that are on outside cannabis plants that I'll one day harvest for eating?

personally I don't worry about this. There are microscopic organisms that you can't even wash off because they are so small and embedded right in the surface of the plant skin. You wouldn't even be able to see them. If anything it's just a bit of extra protein :) but I have never heard of these organisms being harmful at all. You could give the plant a shake to get rid of some of the bigger bugs that will just fall off.

Thanks for your reply. Yeah, I was really only talking about the see'able organisms that are 1-2 millimeters big. I haven't grown anything yet but I'm use to seeing wild flowers with lots of small creatures moving about on them.

Oh ok. Ya so I came across this on a blog: Use custom organic repellents. Many growers have opted for pungent, organic repellents to keep pests away from both their indoor and outdoor plants. Concoctions like cinnamon oil, clove oil, and coriander oil have all had relative success without causing any damage to the plant. You can easily spray these repellents directly onto the cannabis leaves with no fear of any adverse reaction.

You eat food right?

Our governments set levels for bug parts in the processed foods we eat and they are not negligible. In a pound of peanut butter you'll get up to a gram of bug parts. More than that in the jam you slap on the other slice of toast. Not to mention what was in the flour that was used to make the bread you toasted. Ground up weevils. gnats, spiders and plenty of other bugs. Totally healthy and just another source of protein. Did you know grasshoppers are about 70% protein and considered tasty snacks in many cultures. Not to mention deep fried tarantulas and many other delicacies.

As an old biker I always found bugs in my teeth to be an easy way to floss. ;)

By the way @ali_afish I noticed you posted this custom organic repellent stuff at another forum where I happen to be the Admin so what's your game eh?

I hear what you're saying OldMed, but it's the squeamishness of seeing they are there then putting the leaves in the oven (toasted bugs!) or just brushing them off for eating raw. I know most processed foods do contains parts of insects but it's like they aren't there when I'm opening a packet of what looks like perfectly flawless food,

I wouldn't call them 'pests' Ali-fish as they aren't eating the plant, they are just living there and taking in the sun.

I suppose I'll just have to enjoy the extra protein lol. Eeeeew!

I don't go out of my way to eat bugs either but I think nothing out of knocking back a beer outside that has a fly or something buggy floating around in it.

Like I tell the old lady. Easier to swallow than spit. ;) :D

I just share solutions that I think will work. Is that allowed? I'm a big believer in organic solutions.

If they aren't pests, I vote eat the bugs!!

If you are growing organic..the other beneficial bugs will eat the bad bugs. Last year I grew organic outside and to my amazement I watched every bug do their job. I had over 20 diff species of spiders, I had frogs etc. I had no problems with mites or any other bad insects. Grasshoppers are real pricks in veg..you wont see them during flower time..you will have to remove them manually till then
