you may not notice it so much yourself, but to other people, you will reek when you come out of your grow room. if i water my plants, pluck a few bad looking leaves, tuck a few more, maybe move the plants a little, not a big thing right? not to you, who have had your head stuck in it, but to anyone else, you reek. so if you really want to control odors, get a jump suit or something like that, and when you come out, wash your hands thoroughly, with a little alcohol after water.

On the ona stuff. If your room is never opened and you never take your plants out you don't need anything other than the carbon filter.

It is so far from that atm. It is in the spare bedroom upstairs, in a closet with sliding doors that do not close completely. One I get my first yield I hope it is enough to impress wife, both in quantity and quality. I can crunch the numbers to show her how much cheaper it is that way. Then I can convince her that spending some money to step up our game with provide even greater rewards.

I have known throughout this grow she has been resistant, but I only found out the biggest problem when I hashed it out with her the other day. I can work around all of her concerns, I just had no idea that the smell was giving her a headache sometimes. She is also concerned about the smell at the front door, but ONA could easily take care of that. I have a few extra bucks now so a carbon filter should suffice to bring the smell down to a dull roar.

Not worried about how much I smell of cannabis, never cared since I smoke all day anyway. But that last comment you made tied in quite well to something I have always wondered about. What were those wreaths the old Romans used to wear really made from.

Once you get things flowing and fully utilize your space you can get down to $1/g or so all-in. Every time I've calculated my costs I fall in somewhere around $1/$1.25/g including all expenses and depreciation on equipment. Add labour if you want, I don't count my labour, it's my hobby and I'd be doing it regardless of costs.

On the ona stuff. If your room is never opened and you never take your plants out you don't need anything other than the carbon filter. Of course, shit happens and you'll open the area, unless you have spaces within your grow area to also hang, trim etc. you'll end up brining plants out of the tent/room at some point. That's where the Ona comes in handy. I trim/chop in the basement in the open are where I have lots of space. That's when I open my bucket and a couple of hours later smell's gone. Nowhere near my grow area, I just keep a bucket in the basement area I use for trimming and open it when I'm working on plants outside the room. I use like 2 buckets a year and it keeps the smell at bay, cheap insurance and no questions about "that smell".

And thats what a portable air scrubber is for, its the same thing as an ona bucket except its carbon filter based. Its what remediation people use when you have something like a septic tank rupture or raw sewage go into someones basement. Its just as effective as the carbon filter for a neg air setup but portable and youre not using a chemical to scent the air. He said he had concern over that as they are both scent sensitive. If you buy carbon to redo your own can filter just buy extra and with any fan you can make a portable air scrubber, trust me try it sometime and once you do you will never buy ona again.

Edit: this is the industrial version of what im talking about. A Diy one is just like that ona bucket but with carbon.

From a simplicity standpoint the Ona bucket is hands down simple, buy, open, close when smell has cleared.

I tend to go with the simple route/recommendations for hobby growers and Zoic has clearly stated he doesn't have a lot of cash for this or at least has to cost justify his spend. Not sure what a DIY version of that would cost but likely more than a small bucket of Ona.

A hepa filter is not for smell, a HEPA is for particulate in the air. Carbon is for smell. They are two different types of filters that fit on the same machine. Hepa stands for High efficiency particulate air, its does absolutely zero for smell, its for ppl who are alergic to things like dust, pollen, ect. In remediation its used for toxic particulate like asbestos. Now if you purchased a carbon filter for that machine instead of a hepa filter it would have worked amazing. If you still have that machine just buy a carbon filter for it and you dont need to DIY it. Simple mistake thats all.

If he is already making a carbon filter for the room its actually less expensive than buying ona, just buy a bigger bucket of activated carbon and make a carbon based one instead of ona bucket, he'd need the carbon anyway for when his filter wears out. A DIY air scrubber is just a fan passing the contaminated air thru activated carbon. The most common DIY way is just take 2 diff sized buckets or pastic containers of any size, drill holes thru them so air will travel thru it, use a pair of womens pantyhose wrapped inset to contain the carbon between the two buckets and attach a fan to it. Most people will have all these things around the house already.

Either way i suppose im just not a fan of chemical based air scenting products, and just wanted to point out a HEPA does zip for odor.

Yes, you pretty much hit the nail on the head. ONA is under consideration for other parts of the house, but I think a box fan in the window with a nice carbon filter should suffice for now. It is not like I can drive a hole through the closet door, since I rent, and as I stated the doors do not close very well.

I am going to work on a grow room at some stage and my bro is going to help with the cost, to a point. I still have to keep it down scaled since I am likely going to be moving in the next year. What can I say, it is complicated.

You dont get what i mean, a portable air scrubber isnt vented out anywhere, thats a negative air setup. A fan attached to a DIY carbon filter so it sucks the air in the room thru the carbon. Its just recirculating the air in the area thru carbon and filtering it. You could open your closet door and not smell anything unless you left it open for like an hour. For smallish spaces without a tent its a better option than the negative air version. If youre buying carbon already all you need is a fan for each portable air scrubber you want, one for the grow room and one for the hallway outside it maybe?

Either way good luck. I just dont get how anyone could consider a diy carbon scrubber complicated, any 8 year old could make one in 5 minutes.
