Prior to having to go into assisted living then a nursing home, I had to deal with Medicare and "Home Based Care" for my mom. Thankfully, her GP understood the intricacies and said and did all the right things so we could take advantage of it. This article explains it in more detail, evidentially many people can't/don't/won't take advantage of it, but it's there and requires some finesse. Also the author, Philip Moeller, has a couple of good books about SS and Medicare you should read if you're getting to retirement age.

You got to work all the angles.

My Mamma died a few months back. She had a lot of small strokes, and towards the end, a couple three not so small ones. We had Hospice, and they were great telling us all the little tricks to work the system. Luckily she was able to die at home, and we didn't have to go the nursing home route, but if we had, I think we could have done it for a few months without cost. Just a few months could have burned up all of Mamma's money. Instead, she was able to leave me a good start on my retirement savings.

Back before I was on the straight and narrow, I spent a good deal of time on the wide and curvy. A lady friend once ask me if I was scared her husband would kill me. I told her I wasn't afraid of dying. But getting hurt bad scared the shit out of me. The danger is coming from a different direction these days, but I still feel much the same.

Exactly. I'm not afraid of dying, it's living like a vegetable that I can't accept. Hospitals are way too good at keeping your body live, without you really living.

Yup forgot spelling . And actaully if wanting out a gun is a great choice except for the mess. Suicide is not a joke though tty your right and sorry man, I lost my best friend to a shotgun and I lost all respect for him, not for what he did to him self, I guess some see no other way, I lost respect for him doing it in the family home and punishing them with that. Anywho happier times....it's almost outdoor season .... wooohooo!

If any of you have or use narcotic pain patches for acute pain, make sure everyone who would possibly apply them know what they are capable of. A family memeber had a couple of bad strokes, and Hospice wrote a script for fentanyl pain patches. I was one of the main caregivers, and I didn't know about them. They were to be used only in extreme situations, and had been in the house a couple of months. She also had regular pain patches that she used everyday. Anytime someone would come see here, she had them put a patch on her. The fentanyl patch got applied by accident and it induced a stroke or heart attack. She died three days later. Two of which she slept through.

Me too.... And I have a really good start on it. I got like 50 stents in me pipes already trying to keep the old ticker going. They want to bust my chest open but I don't wanna.

I want to go quickly, but FIRST I want to make a positive contribution to the world that's given me so much.

That basically sums up my motives at this point.
