Good morning guys. Hope everyone is having a lovely day. Sorry about my post lastnight. At that time I wasn't able to load any of the pictures I wanted to because of my Internet speed. Got that fixed now and just wanted to post the pictures I intended to yesterday. (: wasn't a big score, however it's still a score.. you don't score until you score, we don't sleep at half time around here... hahaha :hump: 20170502_102815.jpg Here is a batch I fixed up as a little snack lastnight. Went ahead a sliced me a few onions, paper thin and rolled in my flower mixture. I have to say an onion goes super good with um. 20170425_204936.jpg

Nice !
Awesome thread here man, Lots of great info . Those look tasty.
I am dying to get some here, I am hanging in NY for a few months and have been on the hunt for the last two weeks now , so far no luck. Have read all I can find on the area, and they are here somewhere, just need finding.

I did spy who looked like some chicken of the woods from a distance while on a drive today, real bright. I will be checking that out later this evening to see if I am right.

Thanx 4 stopping by bro... yeah, the Morels are definitely the shiznit (: I never thought I'd like um as much as I do, mainly because it's a "mushroom". However man they taste absolutely nothing like one.!! I've went as far as getting tired of waiting for spring to roll around and order off walmart.com just to get my fix... lol.

Yeah the chicken of the woods is super good aswell. Taste just like a damn chicken nugget....

Now the Morels are super tricky. You'll be staring directly at one and honestly not see it!! They blend in super good because of their color. They have almost the same color as their environment. Makes them very tricky to locate. I've found that if you crouch down and scan it makes it somewhat easier when trying to spot them.. if you ever need any other help or info just holler at me.

Thanks man! lots of great info here already , the rest is all out there in the woods. I know they are in the area, just need to find them. I remember finding them around skunk cabbage at the edge of woods/swampy areas.
I have not had them in many years, long ago I use to go with my old man. he was all about wild mushrooms , have had a large variety of them growing up. Unfortunately I don't know enough to safely gather many, I do remember morels and the chicken, and I trust myself to gather them , I will research the oysters, cauliflower, and some others we use to get.

My mission now is morels, but not sure what else spring brings here, its been forever. I thought the chicken was a fall mushroom here as well , so looking forward to this evenings hike.

In a monotub, but yeah. You just have to let it further colonize the bulk sub before fruiting.
Hey bro... I was meaning to ask you.... ok, let's say I have a bag of that grain that is colonizing, and it's ready to be transferred to the bulk compost. How in the world do you transfer without it getting contamination!? And what do you do, just cut the bag of compost open to add the grain in, or what?

(: yeah, the chicken usually tends to come out right around the time the Morels are wanding down for the season. It'll be super small at first, I tend to locate a patch and just mark my location I found it in on GPS and wait for it to get bigger. Chanterelles are another good one, aswell as Lions Maine. Just be super careful with the a morels bro.. you know they are look alike right?! They are super poisonous to.!! I will post a picture here in a second so you will know the difference.

Ok. Here in these pictures you'll see the difference between a "true Morel" & the poisonous false Morel.

The true Morel has a "hollow stem & also hollow cap". As you can see in the pictures. The false Morels doesn't and the stems tend to go all the way to the top of the caps!
False Morel...
images-34.jpg the Morel on the right in this picture is the true Morel. The one on the left is false. images-21.jpg the one cut open is the false Morel. See how the stem travels all the way to the top of the cap and isn't hollow? Key signs of a fake. images-33.jpg 2017-05-03-13-28-37--1537794770.jpeg

In a "glove box" or still air environment after lysol'ing. It's not always guaranteed you'll get contams, and I hear if the mycelium is aggressive or strong enough, it'll overtake contams before they start colonizing, themselves.

And yes, you mix the grain to the compost thoroughly and add to a sterile monotub or dubtub.

yep, glove box.. Or if you can work quickly, simply turn off the AC lysol the air but let it fall before opening your bag, lysol will cause mutations. Alcohol wipe the outside of your bag and knife used to open the bag. Wear gloves and clean your gloves. Try not breathing directly on the bag. If you get a rich contam, during pinning, its ok! The shrooms are absolutely still edible. Just rinse them off and dehydrate them. Make a tea later or out of the fresh cleaned ones.
@Sassafras¥

builed a glovebox this way. i can vouch for it

https://www.shroomology.org/forums/topic/189-high-quality-glove-box-tek-by-str0be/

notes:

if you mess up with the arms of the tyvek suit use the legs. be extra fucking careful not to duct tape the gloves any amount tighter than they are in an unstretched state.

get xlarge nitrile gloves so you can easily slip your hands on and off.

if you dont give a hoot about spending that kinda dough on a glove box, simple buy some disposable nitrile gloves from the cleaning isle and get a storage bin and cut two 4" holes on the side NEATLY so later when you get some income you can upgrade that box to a better version glovebox
