I've got a beautiful Afghani male that I intend to use for making seed. My plan was to pollinate one of the three Critical Jack Herers I have going at the moment, but all three of them have turned out to be some of the ugliest, most pathetic pieces of shit I've ever had the displeasure of growing, and I now have no interest whatsoever in using them for seed. I definitely still want to use the Afghani male though, but it's going to have to wait a while.
So my question is, now that the male is flowering nicely and producing lots of sacs, what is the best way for me to harvest them without wasting anything? They're not all ripening at the same time, so I have clusters with a couple that are ready to burst and a bunch that are not. Should I cut off individual sacs as they ripen and dry and store them, or take the whole branch and try to collect pollen as it drops, even though the majority of them are not ripe? I've heard of people taking branches and keeping them in a cup of water, but do they actually continue to ripen once they've been removed from the plant?
It's going to be a good while before I use this pollen because I'm planning another seed run with my next grow, which is going to be Mr. Nice Mango Haze crossed with Blue Dream from Humboldt. I expect this to be a lengthy grow. I plan on crossing the Afghani male with a female Shit from Mr. Nice, hopefully for a fast finishing strain suitable for outdoor, but I'm unsure if the pollen will stay viable for this amount of time.
Hopefully someone with some pollen collecting experience can point me in the right direction.
