I get what you are saying.

I also believe in ones right to carry. I carry myself. Though I am also trained to defend myself with my hands.

I'm also not a coward. I lived in the ghetto for a while and walked the streets everyday without carrying.

I have said this before but I don't think you were around at the time. Twice for sure and a third time possibly I could have killed someone and been in the right and no charges. I didn't. I have zero desire to kill someone. I will if I have to.
I'm a 175 lbs white guy and lived in tyne ghetto of detroit but street smart and not an idiot. Had a problem once or twice but I rarely ever carried it's alot how you carry yourself

I am legally allowed to own a fire arm and can purchase one from a privet citizen but cuz of certain mistemeaters I have can't pass federal background check for like 6 more months. Don't need a perment to carry in Missouri. I can carry without one.

That sucks! I usually have to wait a week for something similar.
I know the government has a program where you pay them a fee and the do a deep background check on you to avoid further hassles.
I'd rather wait a week than pay them. Seems wrong on so many levels.

Not if you use pot.

Sorry. Its a risk to have guns and pot.

The new 4473 states specifically that cannabis is federally illegal and they don't recognize medical or rec states.

Try Illinois - gotta have a FOID card just to buy ammo much less a firearm.

CCW? Don't even bother asking, you'll get laughed outta the cop shop.
California has gone that way as well. We now have to register ammo sales. Afaik handloading supplies are not covered. Now here's my plan:

I rented a room in Highland Park many years ago and was surprised to learn that handguns were completely banned in city limits. Not sure how it works now. I stayed under the radar until it was time to get the fuck out.

my dad taught martial arts for my whole life, and one thing I've found out (the hard way, sorta) was that learning how to defend yourself, albeit an excellent way to build confidence, self esteem, etc, it tends to do the same thing as getting a car and making it faster..
that is, it's sorta human nature to see HOW fast your car is..
or in this analogy, how good one is at combat.

I got expelled from three schools, suspended countless times, juvenile battery charge...

It's a fine-line..
the other thing that sticks out in my head is the part in the movie "Friday", sorta scary..
"kids these days are too afraid of takin an ass-whuppin"

Self-defense is a wonderful thing to know, but unless you're really disciplined, it's almost a sure-fire way to get in trouble. especially as a kid..
EDIT- I did want to make clear that I wasn't implying that your advice isn't good advice, just that often times the people learning self-defense aren't doin it to defend themselves, rather to make themselves better at fighting.
fine line between the two.
The little that I know of you, i'm sure you are responsible about all of it, but I think you are a quasi old-timer like me, no?
annnnnd age brings wisdom and mellowness.. annnd much lower testosterone levels!

I used to like a good fight. Lol.

I'm calmer these days.

I box with my kids daily. My 6 year old boy is going to be a bad mofo.

yuuup.. me too, me and my brothers have had hundreds of sparring fights
one thing is for sure though, get your lil one into judo and/or wrestling.
All the different aspects of controlling momentum, and joint manipulation..
good shit.
those two arts will trump almost any conventional martial art.
Krav Maga is another one to consider, although that one is BRUTAL.. more killing techniques rather than anything else..
but overall krav maga may be the most valuable
if I had to choose just one, it'd be that.
But ya gotta be careful there.. manslaughter is a very real possibility.. and over yrs of practice it'll come almost instinctively.
which can be bad..
I was at a party about ten yrs ago and a dude jumped out of a closet to scare me, which fuckin a-right it scared me

he had to get 7 stiches to his eyebrow when I cracked him with an elbow on accident.. his eyebrow just exploded.
I felt horrible really

True dat. Sounds like me and my brother, we both trained in fighting pretty early - kung fu, boxing (he was golden gloves), hapiko, some jeet kun do concepts. Lots of of sparring, lots of street fights, and we both bounced in bars around chicago for years. When most guys get drunk and start fighting, we didn't even really worry about it. Small chance they'd do any real damage to us or each other. But it's another story when a trained guy starts hitting people, the power they generate is amazing, especially boxers. I remember a muscular little puerto rican guy that hit this big guy only 4 or 5 times. The big guy looked like he was worked over by a baseball bat - nose crushed, broken jaw hanging, eyes welded shut... nasty. You have to be careful when you're trained, or you'll be up on "excessive force" charges by simply defending yourself. It's better to just hit them if you have to, and quickly leave...
