400 Watt Vero29 V7 vs 400w digital HID/cool tube

I have been dreading the upcoming warm weather and the high temperatures my 3x3 grow tent will likely see with my 400w HID digital ballast/cool tube combo. I have been considering purchasing a 400 Watt Vero29 V7 in a square framework from timbergrowlights.com. http://timbergrowlights.com/400-watt-vero29-v7-square-framework/

Can one of you brilliant people tell me if this unit will reduce the overall temperature in my 3x3 grow tent compared to my current 400w HID cool tube setup? Also if you have any idea of what kind of performance upgrade I may be getting with the timber cob setup I would really appreciate your input as well.
Thanks in advance.

it will still be 400W of heat in the tent. you can turn that cob fixture down to 300W though (or buy a smaller fixture) and have the same amount of light you are used to

if you use the same fan you use with the cool tube to vent your tent, it will remove the same amount of heat

LEDs like it a little warmer so that is in your favor, heat is less of a problem on product quality

@CobKits thanks for you reply. You confirmed my fear that 400w cob will produce the same heat as 400w hid.
But you also confirmed my hope that a lower wattage cob like a 300w unit would produce the same output as my current 400w HID. Looks like I will just get a lower wattage unit, which works for me because they cost less lol. Thanks for spreading your wisdom to me.

Since @RatKing is using a cool tube he likely is not contributing 400W of heat to the tent. (Now don't tell me you led boys truly believe the cool tube isn't remove a generous portion of the heat from the tent)
So the 400W cob would likely actually be hotter in the tent.

Why not keep the 400 HID and add an air conditioner to the room the tent is in on the days days when needed?

The heat from the cobs generally rises to the top of the tent and will be much easier to remove.the heat from hps ends up all over the place making the tent and everything in it hotter.like cobkits said though, plants would be happier with more heat under the cobs.so if you like growing @78f with your hps you and your plants will love it @ 80 to 82f under good led's.something to consider.300w of good (cree haha) cobs would be sweet in a 3 x 3

I have that kit as a replacement for my 600w in my 3.5 x 3.5 tent. So far I haven't reached 79f and I've turned down my fan to 75% power. Plants have responded very well.

If you have the tools just build the frame. All you need is a power drill. If you can get the aluminum cut prior even better.

Current grow with it is my signature

Save up Matt.

Somebody that actually grows might want options.

I've been building lights for friends with open boxes/frames for years. I wanted to offer LED grow lights with the connections safely enclosed in a box. They pay for themselves.

'Somebody that actually grows' like myself can see your product is overpriced. I built my lights already, I'm not saving for anything. 4 CXB3070s no matter what bin, how you wanna mount them, frame them, wire them or stick a flashy tag on them, are not worth $800. You're stupid for thinking someone would pay it when there are so many better options.

I hope you're some kind of marketing guru because you're going to need some serious skills to convince people to pay what you're asking.

And because I have nothing better to do, my lights that I built with zero skills, zero experience, zero knowledge for a third of what you're asking http://imgur.com/a/vQBhO

In fact, after looking around, your lights are the MOST expensive $/watt of any pre built cob light on the market that I know of.

Well, I can honestly say that I looked at your website and damn near shit myself, looking at those prices.
I also really don't find that a driver in a box is much of an option either, but ok.
Good luck with that anyways.

No. I'm in the US. Do you have any lights for sale? Can I buy some?
I have built my own but not to sell. I can definitely direct you to some forum advertisers on RIU who do have some to sell you though. You typically won't see them coming into threads unannounced/uninvited spamming their products and website info though. They develop leads through helping others understand what lighting is all about and offering their product when asked. I don't mean to openly bash you or anything, just saying that I hope our forums here in RIU never turn into an Advertiser spamming convention.

On a side note, I really like the clean look of your site. It seems professional. If Cobkits site looked half as good as that he'd be a millionaire already!
