Again, how do you punish prisoners for refusing to work? You can't give them more time or any type of physical punishment like solitary (in the hole). That would definitely be unconstitutional.
Denying privilages is the only thing they've got, and that isn't really forcing anyone to do anything. It is simply a choice.

Did you not read the one post where the guy was threatened to be put in the hole? I guess not.

I don't have any problem with you but you have no idea. I've done time. Had things happen that violated my rights. Good luck suing.

I also had friends do federal time.

There is big money in forced labor in the prison system.

You just proved my point.
Thank you.

They can throw you in the hole at any time for any reason. It's not a torture chamber, it's just solitaire.

And it's a travesty it continues on unabated.

You need a field cleared, what do you do? Take bids?

Nah. Why bother? Just call your local Federal Prison Warden, tell him you'll give him 5 grand to clear that field and it's done. He'll pocket the 5 grand, work 50 men on a detail for a few days at no costs to him at all, and everybody wins.

Except the prisoners that wanted no part of being knee deep in shit in the middle of some god forsaken field, that is.

You have NO rights while in jail. Only people that think that are people who have never been.

Legally, that's incorrect. You do still have rights.

The problem is that there's nobody there that gives a damn about it. After all, who is anybody going to believe? A convict or a guard?

It's been that way for decades now and it's completely wrong.
LOL. "legally" goes out the window once you change clothes. Find me one person who's been in and disagrees.

This sounds like slavery in our prison system.
What are their punishment options if you work but do a shitty job? Do you think Aaron Hernandez is being forced to work right now? Fuck no -- he can afford a lawyer.
So basically it boils down to getting fucked if you can't afford quality legal representation, which has been a problem with our system from day one.
It is messed up...

I bet most people in minimum security lockup would disagree. (Most of them can afford lawyers, thanks to white collar crimes.)

The system is fucked. Just one way to control a population.

The problem is, once again, it's a "for profit" system...like pretty much everything else in this country. It was never intended to be that way.

The concepts of rehabilitation, education and therapy have all been tossed aside in favor of punishment and profit.

The United States has only about 4.4% of the entire world population, yet we house 22% of the worlds prisoners. That, in and of itself, shows how broken our entire system really is.

good thing david voted for trump, who reversed the obama era decision preventing the fedguv from using private prisons.
